Cannot say enough great things about Chris (bar) and George (shuttle driver). Both took great pride in their work, the hotel, and the city of Rochester.

We were there during a pretty cold stretch and rooms felt really drafty and dry (mostly because the heater was running non stop). Most evenings we were a bit on the cold side, specially on the side of the bed closer to the huge windows.

Pool was not warm enough to use to our taste and hardly saw anyone using it during our 4 night stay.

Mattress felt "dented" towards the middle. Both my wife and I felt like we were rolling towards the center when sleeping at each side of the bed.

Pleasant experience overall.

We had over 30 rooms booked for the valentines day weekend. If you can get thru their sales department it is worth the frustration of booking a group. I was pretty unsure of what to expect upon arrival. The service made up for the inconvenience of our pre booking experience. The hotel is very new and clean the service was impeccable. The rooms are soundproof and have comfortable beds and pillows. It is more like a Hilton then doubletree. Our group had kids from 9-14. All were treated very very well. Although the restaurants food was great I do not think they are used to large groups. There was a couple across the hall from us who argued all night, not the hotels fault but security was right on it and handled it appropriately and in a very timely matter. Again their service was much better than expected. We would defiantly book here the next time we are in Rochester.

They do it right from check in to check out. Great rooms, service, food. Very spacious, great quality for the price. Will definitely stay here again. Recent renovations were well designed. Good location near downtown and major roads. Easy to get to from airport.

We stayed at this hotel due to it's proximity to The Strong, but were disappointed overall. There was no working dvd player, apparently in the entire hotel- a big disappointment for my young daughter. (and the parents for that matter) The heating system was so noisy that it prevented my child from napping, and kept us all awake through the night. Additionally, we have never stayed in a suite with a kitchenette, that was completely devoid of any amenities. What is the point of cabinets, if they are totally empty? We could not even get a bottle-opener from the hotel staff. The extra cost for the suite was not worth it.

This property has won a case full of national awards
under Jay Rettberg, one of Doubletree's most respected general managers,

And I know why. When I needed a button sewed on a shirt, no problem. When I needed to be picked up at the Amtrak station in a winter storm, no problem. That's the way the staff responded to every one of my requests. Willingly. Cheerfully.

The Strathallen is located in a quiet, upscale neighborhood near the center of Rochester.

Char, a restaurant that's popular with locals, is on the premises.

Recommendation: The sea bass (not always on the menu), the jumbo prawns appetizer, and the homemade ice cream/sorbet sampler. All excellent.
