An inexpensive and nice alternative to the pricey rooms in nearby Cooperstown. Nothing fancy; in fact, very spartan.

But the rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and the wifi is quick. Fridge and microwave in every room; no coffee maker. AC is a wall unit that works very well.

We came into town for a concert and tour of a brewery, and a visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame then a walk through downtown Albany. We stayed at this hotel for two nights. Very clean, very friendly and a great price. We would certainly stay here again and recommend this hotel to you.

The Village Motel is a typical 1950's motel. For everyone complaining about the odor...honestly, that's just the town (it was settled because of the sulfur springs, I believe). I've been through the town many times in the past few years. So, depending on temperature and wind direction, the village sometimes smells musty and faintly like rotten eggs (or, as my son so delicately put it, like farts ).

That being said, the Village Motel is a great choice if you're in the area and don't wish to spend a fortune in Cooperstown or Utica. I booked our room through trip advisor/booking.com, and there were no issues with hidden fees that some others complained of. The lady that completed my check in and gave me the key was lovely and gracious, and genuinely helpful.

The room was a bit dated, with older brown paisley bed covers. But when I checked the sheets and under the mattresses (I'm maybe slightly obsessive), everything was VERY clean. No dust, even behind the night stand. Whoever does the cleaning is to be commended. Mattresses were very firm and comfortable. Nice flat screen TV, mounted at a good angle for viewing from bed. I don't watch TV, but there seemed to be a good selection of channels. A nice newer mini fridge and small microwave, and a couple bottles of water that were nice and cold. WiFi signal was good, had no connection issues.

Toiletries are minimal (a couple bars of soap, a couple packets of shampoo/conditioner), and no hairdryer, so keep that in mind if you use one. The hot water took a bit to warm up, but when it did it was nice and very hot, as I prefer. Water pressure in the shower was good and steady. Because it's Richfield, the water usually starts a bit yellowish, but clears right up.

The Stewart's gas station that was immediately next door has moved to a newer location down the road a bit, but is still convenient if you forget anything.

Bear in mind that this area is a favorite of tourists in the summer, due to the close proximity to Cooperstown and the baseball hall of fame. Prices will most likely be higher between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Even now, prices in the area tend to be higher, with rooms in Cooperstown and Utica running around $150+. So $90 here was a steal.

Overall, we had a great stay, and the Village Motel will definitely be our preferred home base the next time we're in the area.

Passed through the area during the winter, may motels seemed closed along Rt. 20. This place was bright, the lady working the desk was very kind, and I had a very comfortable and warm room while it was -10 outside. Lots of channels on a flat screen TV that was wall mounted.

Nice and clean and tidy. Staff very helpful, decent wifi and in a good position in town. Local pub nearby gets busy and the Tally Ho restaurant next door looks basic but the food is very good both in quality and price. Would recommend if passing through.
