Having stayed at many B&Bs across the country, I have to say that this experience has been an odd one. I'll list several issues that came up:
1) Credit cards are not accepted. Deposit needed to be mailed as a check. This is inconvenient.
2) The main issue is that the owner is just plain unfriendly, grumpy and not welcoming. When we arrived, there was no tour of the house, it was unclear whether we were welcome to use the common areas. It doesn't really feel like a B&B, more like someone's old and somewhat unkempt home. Frankly the owner seemed a bit overwhelmed and did not present as someone who wants to be doing what she is doing. Maybe if there was some hired help, it would have been different.
3) Overall the place is quite dilapidated It needs reno and basic upkeep. Rooms smell of old mold. The beds are quite uncomfortable and small for a couple. Heat was set to 68, which was quite cold.
4) Breakfast was a big issue: we were told that breakfast is served around 8-8:30. (Usually for a B&B you get a wider range, or are asked for your preference.) All parties eat together, at the same round table. This may have been ok, although not preferred, IF breakfast was actually served on time. At 8:30 we got coffee and some sweets, but the actual meal did not arrive until almost 9:30. So that's an hour wasted in awkward small talk with people who you don't know. No matter how lovely they may be, most don't want that. I do think that the owner perhaps tries her best, but it was obvious that many tasks for challenging for her. One of the guests felt badly and helped her serve breakfast - that is just not something you want to do when you come to a B&B to rest and relax.
5) For the second morning, we decided to have breakfast elsewhere. The owner seemed quite irritated about that, stating that she cooked for us. Well, maybe she should not have cooked until we have come for breakfast!
6) She never asked how our stay was at the end or checked in on us throughout. At the end, all we got was "I have a bill for you."
So overall for the price (over $1100 for 2 rooms 2 nights), this was a disappointing experience.

Stayed for 2 nights in October as a getaway with friends and very much disliked this place. The house is very old and lacks charm but my main issue was that the bathroom wasn’t clean well, there was hair left on the floor and dust everywhere, our sink had two facets one cold , one scolding hot , but no way to get warm water, very uncomfortable during cold fall days. The bed was sinking soft and noisy , and it was very cold in the house. We were told breakfast was at 8:30 am(no options) but since Yvonne has no help and she is elderly , it took her 1.5 hrs to serve everyone their food ... so unless you want to spend 2 hours getting breakfast , I suggest you eat elsewhere ( I have to say food was very good) . Overall , the hostess is unfriendly and rooms are uncomfortable, for 300$ A night , I would stay elsewhere!

This was our first B&B experience.....and it was wonderful.
The building is quaint and clean, filled with beautiful antiques.

The B&B has 5 rooms, and only the first night it was full. We stayed in the Ivy room on the second floor and only heard the smallest bits of noise from other people coming in.

The room was a touch small, but we had a queen bed and a love seat along with a large closet. The bathroom was spectacular, spacious with a Jacuzzi and lots of bubble bath!

Breakfast is served at 8:30 am sharp, which I enjoyed, great initiative to get an early start on the day. We shared one large table with everyone and it created a great way to meet the others occupants and learn about things to do in the area. Yvonne is a great cook and each breakfast was delicious.

The building has a nice parlor off the living room with lots of books and a TV. We spent an evening in there watching GOT. There is a wonderful font porch with several chairs. And then in the back a large patio.

The B&B is a couple blocks from the main intersection of Rhinebeck on the way up to Red Hook.

And lastly Yvonne is very knowledgeable of the area, if your looking for what to do she is a great source of ideas.

One one minor critique is I wish the room had been a touch warmer.

I had my second visit to the Veranda house this past Spring and it was great to come back to see Yvonne and enjoy the peaceful beauty of her inn (just a short walk from the town of Rhinebeck). There is a wonderful breakfast served in an inviting dining space where it is easy to sit and engage in conversation with other guests.
The inn is easy to access from the thruway and close enough to all the special places in and near Rhinebeck. Veranda house is truly an authentic old fashioned B&B!

We were celebrating our anniversary and asked friends to recommend a B&B in Rhinebeck. There recommendation turned into a wonderful two nights at the Veranda House. The owner Yvonne was very friendly and accommodating. The room was lovely with a beautiful canopy bed and a large bathroom . Yvonne prepared two wonderful breakfasts with home made bake goods.
