Small mainstay diner serving up fantastic breakfasts and lunches. Retro-like train-car decor will take you back in time. One of the best diners around, and serving up some of the best homemade pies in the area. You can't go wrong here.....

Arrived at closing time, but were welcomed in anyway. The owner was very informative, helpful and pleasant as was the waitress. The diner is pristine, the food was very good (huge portions!), very affordable and the coffee was excellent. Well worth a visit.

We saw this place the night before and thought it looked a little quirky. But since we like quirky we were there the next morning for breakfast. We were pleased when we saw a lineup as that is usually a good sign. We were seated right away at the counter - I guess everyone else was waiting for a booth. My wife had the pancakes with fresh strawberries and she admitted the pancakes were better than her own (and she makes great pancakes). I had the special which was tater tots with ham and bacon with 2 over easy eggs smothered in hollandaise sauce and covered with shredded cheddar. It was heavenly.
We will seek this place out when we are in the area again.

I finally was able to stop by the Penn Yan diner this morning for breakfast with my dad. Though a bit snug, the retro converted train car concept and overall feel of the diner made for a neat experience. The diner's aesthetics, affordable pricing, and location in a tiny town gave it a similar feeling to the Double R Diner on Twin Peaks. The service was great, especially considering how busy the place was - dad and I showed up at 8:00 and saw two parties put on a wait list while we finished up. (Their wait times were minimal, ~3 minutes for two people and ~10 for three.) You can tell the owners truly care about the business, as they were inside interacting with customers, overseeing their staff, and helping out when the demands became more impressive and the diner filled up. I had a sweet cream pancake topped with strawberries and a half serving of homefries covered in sausage gravy; this was the best breakfast I have had in a very long time! Additionally, the coffee was excellent! (A true Dale Cooper moment - that's some damn good coffee.) I drank it black for fear even a touch of creamer would dilute how great it was. Can't wait to stop by again and try some more items from the menu!

Cute little dinner. Not many around that original like that one. Had a great breakfast. Sausage gravy was wonderful, servings plentiful.
