We loved Birdsall when it first opened. We went for some beers and calamari recently. The bartender ignored us for a while even though it was not a crowded bar. The beer selection was not the best ( no pilsners, lots of pumpkin ales) and the calamari was cold and not really edible. We are in no hurry to go back.
So sad what has happened to this place. Visited last year & loved it, but not so much this past Sunday evening. Hate writing poor reviews, but this place needs some serious work.
All we ordered were apps & drinks, yet we couldn't get out of there in under 3 hours with one thing arriving as ordered!
Apps took forever. Wings were burnt to a crisp & stale looking & smelling. Completely inedible. Even the server was grossed out when he looked at the bit-into wing. Yuck. We did not ask them to remake them as we were turned off. So, ordered the the "brisket" nachos which took equally as long (25+ mins) & had about 2 & 1/2 pieces of actual brisket on them, with the cheese & sour cream sloppily globbed on top. When we asked for some more brisket they brought out a bowl of the chili (basically the nachos are just a few chips with cheese & a hunk of sour cream, with the chili that's on the menu for $5 thrown on top, but they have the nerve to charge $16 for this mess of nachos!!... & ours was missing the brisket in the first place til we were given the chili that we then had to pour on to the nachos!!) Unbelievable!
I've worked in the restaurant industry for 15 years... the most basic concept is to take away the food that came out wrong & remake it to the guest's satisfaction. But not only were we given a sloppy bowl of chili to make our own nachos that we paid $16 for, but to add insult to injury, when I was using the restroom (which are in gross conditions) & walked by the kitchen I heard the kitchen staff yelling about our request for more brisket (the nerve we have lol) and that the customers today were unbelievable. (Hey kitchen staff, maybe it's YOU). Unacceptable. Such a disgrace to the service industry. What a turn off to have such lazy, trashy people working for what could be a great place. And if you're going to talk smack, make sure the guests can't hear you.
Couldn't wait to get out of there but the server was so apologetic & felt awful for our experience. Bad idea to order dessert but truthfully we were still hungry (all we had were a few "nachos" with sour cream & chili) & thought how could they mess up a waffle? Well, after waiting another 30 minutes for it (yes, 30!), it was ice cold & we bit into a nice chunk of ice from whatever was frozen on that plate. Instantly regretted that decision.
Unacceptable. The whole experience was unacceptable. But did a manager visit the table? No. Did the staff offer to take anything off the bill besides the inedible wings & frozen dessert that we clearly could not eat? No. Waste of time & money.
Menu prices are way too high for a place of this poor caliber. We never mind paying higher prices if it means quality food, good concept & professional execution, but this is an embarrassment to the truly good eateries of the HV who do not pass off crappy food as creative & overcharge their customers so they can pay their lazy, rude chefs. Will never be back.
I don't know what issue the one recent negative reviewer had, I disagree with him!
I was in town on business and met my sister and nieces out to eat. We picked this place because of their craft beer menu and my sister said the food was good. It was a beautiful warm evening so we sat outside. I will admit that the service was a little slow. But we didn't mind because it gave me a chance to catch up with my sister.
They had a diverse craft beer menu which had a few choices for just about anyone's taste. And I was pleased with the food. I had a burger and it was perfectly cooked to my liking. Not 5 star but I was more than happy with the food
And bottom line, I would go here again!
One the advice of Westchester Magazine we went to the Birdsall Inn in Peekskill. We were seated outside which was eye opening. We left Peekskill and were transported to a garden somewhere else. Very hippy crowd, doogies allowed, fun vibe. Felt like we were in upstate NY. Live band easy listening nice sounds through dinner. We both had the steak special not cheap $32.00 each farm to table delicious but not cheap. Steak cooked to order with very fresh broccoli, potatoes, with this beyond awesome bacon butter. Transformed that steak in something else. The owner John came over to each table very nice touch. Our waitress Heather nice young lady very helpful so was the rest of the staff. The inside area could use a makeover but outside was great. If you are looking for something special go to the outdoor space at the Birdsall inn before it gets cold. We will be back
