We loved the food, very good taste, ingredients and nice presentation.

It was great to share the food from like we do normally at home.

Very good service, explanation and suggestions from waiters

Will certainly like to visit again next time in the town.

Big place, no credit cards, cash only, not cheap, not elegant, no reservations but the food, wonderful! We get the same thing every time. I’d love to try more but what we get is so great, we can’t explore further! Don Pepe’s special salad, cold, fresh, crisp, crunchy, great provolone and salami, olives, delicious dresssing. Superb! Shrimp Luciano over linguini. To die for! What can I say. No frills but the food is marvelous.

Had dinner tonight and noticed a 19.00 additional charge on my bill.
Waiter said that was for chicken scarpariello which a 1/2 order is
22.00 and the 19.00 is for 1/2 sausage and some potatoes and peppers
First of all what Italian restaurant serves chicken scarpiello with out sausage, potatoes, and peppers included in the chicken scarpiello.
Google chicken scarpiello and you will see the ingredients.
The waiter lied to us and said our chcken scarpiello just is chicken
and nothing else..(wouldn't that just be chicken).
So at the end the 1/2 order of chicken scarpariello was 41.00, what a joke.
We also ordered pasta with meat sauce, tiny small portion was 18.00,
with hardly any meat in it, but at least it was on the blackboard menu
as pasta with meat sauce. We also had baked clams 12 tiny ones.27.00,
but again it is posted on the blackboard so we new the price before ordering.
Spoke with several friends who knew about this place and read lots of the
reviews and see that it is common for them to pad the bill.
Good thing it was just 2 of us and not a group of us, would never go back
to this CASH only restaurant, which we also knew about before coming. They round out the sales tax to the higher amount and still use handwritten paper receipts (guess they cheat the Sales Tax bureau.

If you go ask all questions and price first, ask for the sizes of the small portions, (its not family style unless its the full size portions which are all double the price), and read your paper bill when you get it.

Coming from Miami Beach, this place did not disappoint. The food was great. Atmosphere was authentic Italian. Prices were reasonable. Will come back on our next trip back to New York for sure.

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for over 25 years, this was my first visit. I’m a little disappointed. The atmosphere was more like Katz deli style. The menu was on a wall, the waiter brought the wine to the table and left it there. The seafood marinara, although absolutely delicious, did not come with pasta, you had to order it separately. It was not what I expected, but again, the marinara was yummy.
