This was our first trip to Mauritius after spending many years going to The Maldives. Astroea Beach was in our opinion so much better. Service was first class and food was excellent. The rum was rather nice too. All of the staff were extremely friendly and special thaks to Vic, Shiva, Connie, Jennifer, Rama, Gerry, Kevin and Priya who made our stay so enjoyable. So much so that we'll be returning November 2017.

We spent a week at Astroea, in summary the poor room conditions are just about balanced by exceptionally professional and friendly staff which resulted in a 4* rating.

On arrival we were not happy with the cleanliness of the room, dirty curtains, ants nest in bathroom, generally grimy. However, the hotel manager upgraded us to a Bungalow which was better.

On one occasion the bed sheets were changed and smelt like wet dog, however the staff graciously changed the bedding again.

The most memorable aspect of this hotel was the staff, they were highly trained (silver service) yet personable and always willing to go the extra mile to make your stay a pleasant experience. Nothing was too much trouble. We will stay in touch with a couple of them.

To conclude: The hotel is in need of a lick of paint and tidy up but once you come to terms with this the stay will be excellent. Great food, great service.

What a fantastic time we had. Our room was superb. The food was absolutely delicious.
Vic and his team were fantastic, nothing was to much trouble for them. They treated every person as if they were family. We were very sad to leave and will definitely be going back.
This hotel deserves at least six stars. Maybe it doesn't have a pool, but who needs one when you have the Indian Ocean on your doorstep.
Trip Advisor may only give this hotel 4.5 stars but Vic and his team are all super stars. Thank you for a fantastic holiday.

Travelled business class, thank goodness, as the flights are long and the 4 hour stopover in Dubai would have been a lot worse without the lounge.
The hotel is small and friendly but just not up to standard stated and our first holiday with Kuoni was at the least disappointing. Basic is acceptable in far flung areas but we have experienced clean and basic rooms elsewhere in that part of the world without being dirty.
We considered ourselves lucky to have a two bedroom, living room and bathroom there considering the other rooms that were described to us.
The curtains were filthy, the towels were grey, like cardboard, oil stained and full of holes (better towels in my husband's van!) the floors were passable and the bed linen clean , thankfully. Overall the resort is in desperate need of an overhaul.
The usual towels on sun lounger trick was evident...not that this worried us because we cannot fry all day like most of the guests!
The food was poor in our opinion, apart from when we paid for a special meal on the beach one night. If you are looking for grilled fish and seafood then don't go here...I have experienced so much more for the same money elsewhere.
The staff are very friendly and do their best but the resort just lets itself down.

This was the last of 4 Hotels during our visit to Mauritius. We chose it because of its proximity to the Airport and because the Pictures we saw looked amazing and the Reviews good....

It was very disappointing and already started when our luggage was treated inappropriately (bags are valuable to us and were pulled along the pavement) after check in which itself was neither charming nor welcoming at all. We got the Impression that they are not interested in us and wanted to get over with the check in process to get back to the TV which was running next to the check in desk were serveral employees took a rest and watched TV or played on their mobile phones.

We had the first Bungalow on the left side on the beach.
It is spacious, that's why we took one.
But on These premises you would expect cleanliness.....very wrong.....the Sofa was sticky so we could not sit on it without beach towels, there was an ugly smell coming from it as if a dog took its rest there. Then there are 2 rooms, one a master bedroom with a king sized bed and another room with twin beds.
Aircon in the second room did not work properly. Later we found out by checking the outside area that the aircon was very old and there was a dead Little snake in it, that's why it did not work.

The whole Bungalow was smelly, also the bed linen had stains....not a very welcoming surrounding....Windows were so dirty you couldnt see through.

Breakfast was quite good due to a small Little buffet. Dinner was served in 3 courses you had to choose during breakfast. Plates very small, but sufficient to us as we are Slim People that don't Need much.

The most ridiculous Thing we encountered was that the table was cleaned in between the main course and the desert even if was not dirty....

Prices for Drinks are quite high, but there is a fridge in the room and a Supermarket nearby. A rental car is a must as they Charge for everything, even some strange rusty bikes.

The Service Crew is very Young and more occupied with getting the right Music to their Radio than asking the Clients that pay their wages, if they wanted some more Drinks during dinner.
Generally the behaviour of the Service Crew is sometimes inappropriate as they loudly gossip with each other over the tables when removing plates, although customers still sit there and want their silence while eating.

I don't know where they get their Formation, but they should have some manners when working in the Service area of a Hotel. No "thank you", no "have a nice day" etc.

Even when paying the bill at check out, there was nothing like a "thank you". All the time in These 4 nights we spent there we just felt tolerated, but not as a valuable guest.

One good Thing there is: it is a couples Hotel with no Kids and only like 14 or so rooms

While we were there mostly German Clients, replaced by English couples and one French. This was very different to our last 3 Hotels where the French dominate everything.

The beach should be refurbished as it is completely washed away and doesnt look like in the Pictures.
It was surprisingly good for snorkelling.....but take care: in the afternoon some speedboats might drive over your head...we were eye-witnesses of such an incident...

Don't go there, it ruins some nice impressions you got from Mauritius elsewhere....

Room Tip: Choose a Bungalow, they are dirty and smelly as the whole place, but spacious
