Owner description: PRI's Museum of the Earth was established in 2003 to provide visitors with a unique opportunity to explore our world through a mix of natural history displays, interactive science features, and art exhibitions. The museum's 8,000-square-foot permanent exhibition takes visitors on a journey through 4.5 billion years of history, from the Earth's origin to the present day. Through hands-on, visual exhibitions and outreach, the Museum of the Earth encourages critical thinking about life on Earth in the past and today, and how our species is affecting the natural world.

“Excellent walkthrough of the earth's history”
Reviewed 18 December 2011

This museum is in a very modern building that's largely underground. It looks very cool from the outside. Inside its not a large museum. It takes a third to half a day to go through it.

The museum is very logically laid out starting with the big bang and going up to today. Each section has very informative videos that build upon each other and guide you through the history of the earth. Everyone in the family (including my wife and I) learned a fair bit.

The exhibits are suitable for kids and adults. There are some traditional exhibits with pictures and information to read. Many of the exhibits are colorful pieces with models of animals and bright pictures to engage visitors. Some of the exhibits include videos or are interactive ... like the area where you can look through shale "chips" to find your own fossil to take home!

I don't have anything negative to say about it. It was a solid few hours of engaging education in a great setting.

“We didn't have any children or grandchildren with us but really enjoyed this museum.”
Reviewed 17 December 2011

Good variety of Paleontological items. We were able to tour the newly opened research lab. Also looking for fossils in Shale we found brachiopods, bivalves, trilobytes and brought some home for the grandchildren. Worth while visiting if your time permits.

“Well done and architecturally interesting museum”
Reviewed 7 December 2011

A very interesting space, wonderful whale and mastodon skeletons along with lots of other interesting exhibits. A little boring for young children, I'd say middle school and up is the target audience. If you have got a few days in Ithaca, this is definitely worth the trip

“A fun day with dinosaurs”
Reviewed 1 September 2011

This beautiful museum is perfect for those of any age interested in dinosaurs and earth's early history. The museum is very child friendly, with different hands-on features throughout the museum. The staff are all very knowledgeable (the woman in the gift shop has worked on dinosaur fossils). The museum is not very large, but the exhibits are interesting and engaging.
