Recently stayed at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino and Resort and can say that if you are traveling the Malone, NY - Massena, NY neck of the woods the location is excellent. The hotel was extremely clean and the staff were very friendly. The resort houses a mid-size gambling floor with many of the more popular slot machines. There are smoke-free sections on the floor—but they are surrounded by smoking sections.
The hotel doesn’t look overly spectacular on the outside but inside it is very tastefully decorated. The rooms are very clean and nicely decorated with prints from many local native artists. They did a great job with the inside of this resort. Majority of the rooms have stand up showers but they can easily accommodate 2-3 people if need be. Get the superior king or deluxe king rooms (if available) for a larger room size.
There are several restaurants in the hotel with the Native Buffet offering buffet meals at a very affordable price. I will do a review of the Native Buffet but let me at least say that for the price and the small size of the buffet floor they restaurant offers quite a nice selection of food. We didn’t see room service menu but the open hours for the restaurants are very generous. Like the Sticks Sports Bar & Grill which is open 24/7.
Sweetgrass Spa is located on the 2nd floor, has a fair amount of treatments available, and not terribly expensive (50 minute – Grand River Stone massage is $80). The hotel and spa treatments book up fast on the weekends so be sure to make your spa reservation when you make your room reservation. More availability during the week. Same is true with hotel rooms (rates are less expensive as well). They have a heated pool and hot tub (located on the lobby floor right by the elevators) with plenty of seating.
They have valet parking and you can unload/load your vehicle in the covered entrance way to the resort. However, parking is free and very close to the front door. If you plan on going to Canada the nearest land border ports of entry are in Massena, NY (25 minutes) and the crossing port at Fort Covington, NY-Dundee, QC to the northeast (20 minutes).
Also keep in mind that although there is no room tax there is a $10 resort fee. Compared to many of the Las Vegas resort fees this is cheap. The Akweasne Mohawk Resort and Casino is a very good alternative if places like Foxwoods and Atlantic City are too far of a drive.
