Savute is on the very unpredictable Savute dry river. The park is dry with vast grasslands. Herds of animals can be clearly seen. Is without a doubt what you expect Africa to look like.

We had the pleasure of travelling with &Beyond through Chobe and stayed in Salute for 2 nights. We were extremely lucky to see so many animals, including 2 cheetah, hunting lions and lion cubs. Our &Beyond guide KD was fantastic. He took his time on every sighting, watching the (inter)actions of the animals and adapting the information he shared with us accordingly. He would also anticipate where the animals would be going so we would have excellent sightings without disturbing the animals and more importantly: no or very few other safari vehicles. Some of the guides would almost park on the tail of the lion for their guests to get the best shot, upsetting the animals.
The area is beautiful and as the season hadn't really started yet, it was rather quiet. We didn't see too many other vehicles. Mornings and nights were a bit cold (temps down to about 12 degree Centigrade) so bring enough layers.

Savute campsite provides a new tuckshop in a container for basics which is very useful if you run out of water / drinks. The ablution block is well maintained with hot water and great facilities. We had a late booking due to cancellation of our year in advance booking at Khwai so we had no choose in our campsite and took what we could get. Advise is to try and select your campsite - those facing the river bed are great.

Safe your money and go somewhere else. I felt i was in a fenced safari park. Had to wait in a traffic jam when a tourist ahead in a safari truck wanted to take a cell phone picture. Each morning a line of trucks goes in chasing animals. Some truck drivers have absolutely no respect for the animals and environment.

We were fortunate to see cheetahs, twice, and lions, twice. As well as a couple of black-backed jackal, bat-eared fox, giraffe, hippo, elephant and different buck/birds. But but but the animals are small in quantity and the sightings were lacking in quality for us because of this (even though it's high season) and what we coined the "gecko gang" (6 mega camper trucks driving in convoy around the park creating walls around animals from the explorer company Gecko) plus a sole British videographer (with multiple signs posted on his vehicle "do not follow" me) who would also dominate viewing waterholes and animal sightings. The park staff are friendly and helpful but we couldn't help but feel suffocated by the many viewing cars/tourist vs. animals.
