Having been obsessed with wildlife documentaries for as long as I can remember (much to my wife’s despair), going on my first safari as part of our honeymoon was a dream come true and Motswari ensured it was more perfect than we could have possibly imagined.

After a gruelling flight from the UK via Dubai, we opted to spend a little extra to have a small plane drop us off at the airstrip a few minutes from camp. As we touched down, Difference (our tracker for the duration of our stay) was waiting for us with the Land Rover and a huge inviting smile.
He took us back to camp where we had the opportunity to freshen up before meeting Chad (our guide) and venturing out on the afternoon game drive.

From that moment on, the things and animals we continued to see just took our breath away. It actually feels as if you are in another world, seeing animal’s closer than you would expect and made so much more real with them in their natural environment. You really do feel like a guest in their home.

Chad and Difference together are a great team. Difference very shy, happy, and reserved with a constant eye out for tracks and animals, Chad an absolute wealth of knowledge and experience teaching you things not just about the animals, but also about the terrain, the insects, the seasons. The type of things you just wouldn’t tend to learn from the average book or documentary.

We shared the Land Rover with between 2 and 3 other couples during our stay of 5 days 4 nights (9 game drives). Between ourselves we would rotate to ensure everyone had a different experience and chance to sit up front with Chad, though my wife rationed me as poor Chad must have felt he was on a game show with the non-stop questions from me…….that he always had a well explained answer for.

My wish was for lions and slightly more so, wild dogs and I wasn’t left disappointed! We managed to find a pack of 11 dogs just as they were waking up from a lazy afternoon. All hell soon broke loose as a hyena attempted to steal their Impala kill that they had stashed in a nearby bush, an experience that cannot be put into words.
As for lions, we spent so much time with Western pride. One morning we joined them as they were finishing up their nights kill, before spending the rest of the morning driving with them as they made their way through the reserve….so much more than just a sighting!!
My wifes favourite was the elephants (babies too) and hyenas at their den with their young. Seeing them in the family environment makes you realise just how unfair and untrue the reputation TV and film portrays of them is.

Other animals included leopards, baboon, wildebeest, buffalo, lots of elephants, giraffe, warthog, vultures, impala, Nyala, Kudu, Waterbuck, Steenbuck, hippo, crocodile, eagles and sooooo much more.

As for everything else, the staff are absolutely brilliant, the accommodation (Elephant Room) was amazing and always immaculate and the food (and we a big foodies) was superb and plentiful as was the beer and wine!

Two things you must do, a bush walk with a guide and gun, learning about all the small things and a stay overnight in Giraffes Nest. I won’t spoil the surprise….but just do it!!!

At the end of our trip, I have never been so gutted to leave a place, I could have stayed for a year!!
Chad drove us to our plane, hugs all round and waved us off as we took off.

Thank you Motswari for giving us the best experience that will last with us for a lifetime.

Our family (with 13 and 15 year old girls) spent five great days at Motswari. The facilities were very well kept, beautifully decorated, and the sense of being surrounded by nature was refreshing.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and the culinary team provided impressive dishes at every meal.

Our guide, Henry, was awesome. As we explored the game park for 7 hours a day he engaged with everyone in the vehicle in an interesting and educational way. The animals, including the big 5, were outstanding. Out tracker, Patrick, was impressive at finding and following the tracks to locate hidden game, including a pride of eight lions. They were a great team.

I have been on safaris in the Serengeti and Okavanga Delta before and was very pleased with each unique experience. The experience at Motswari was equally as impressive, and I highly recommend it.

We spent our first 2 nights at Motswari to begin our 7 night stay in the Krueger area. We have done several trips to S Africa and we always choose a few lodges in different preserves so that we can view different terrain, vegetation and especially the different wildlife. Motswari was amazing. Our days began with Ronnie telling us one of his wonderful tribal stories over coffee, then off on the morning game drive. The staff was incredibly attentive to every detail. The food was fantastic, the accommodations were very African - we loved it. Henry was a great guide, saw lots of wildlife. Of course Ronnie was always there to greet our return with another tale, often times with something bad happening to the lowly Phillimon. Great stay!

My family of 4 (wife, 14 year old boy and 12 year old girl) had an experience of a lifetime. The staff is incredibly welcoming and will bend over backwards to make sure that you have an amazing experience. The safari was amazing. Our tracker was Jacky and guide was Brad. They had an amazing wealth of knowledge of the animals and were really exceptional with my kids. They tracked numerous animals including a pride of lions. We did 6 game drives and saw the Big 5. The location is fantastic as well as we had a Nyala, Elephants, warthogs and even a pride of lions walk thru our camp. The food was very good and plentiful with various chicken, beef and kudu options. We scheduled a walking safari which was really nice as well to learn about the plant life and smaller animals. We stayed in the Rhino and Cheetah rooms which were perfect for families as the rooms were connecting. They have a pool onsite, but it was cold and no one used it over the course of our stay. We had dinner in the Boma one evening which was very pleasant and a beautiful fire pit was brewing. The Wifi was spotty at best and only worked in the gallery, but we knew this going in and it's all about disconnecting and enjoying all that Motswari has to offer. Ask about the giraffe's nest for an evening out in the Bush (we did not take advantage of this option). I was thrilled with our stay and will definitely recommend this to family and friends.
