I can't imagine a better game lodge experience than Motswari. From the friendly staff that take care of every need, to the beautifully appointed modern cabins, to the fresh delicious food prepared, and of course the incredible animals that the trekkers were able to locate for us - we were never disappointed. Motswari has been on this land for 40 years and their multi generational staff have passed the wisdom from father to son. We saw all of the major animals and more on our three night stay - 6 game drives total. The pace of the day is relaxing and the man made waterhole across the hill made for amazing animal watching from the comfort of a deck lounge chair. Motswari manages the largest part of the Timbavati Reserve so their drivers get first right to the animal sightings. All the lodges work together but it's nice to get to the front of the line when the action is spotted. One more mention about the food- outstanding!! Fresh vegetables at every meal with variety and options. We absolutely loved it!! Highly recommend!!

Room - extremely large, clean, comfortable and secure. You don't have a TV or a plunge pool outside your room - but that's also a benefit in many ways. This location is all about "outdoors thrill" and sharing the experience with other residents. Don't venture out of it at night - the site is not fenced off and open access by ALL wildlife 24/7 - how amazing is that!!

Safari excursions - twice a day including sunrise and sunset. The drivers and trackers have the flexibility to roam and search all areas of the reserves, and you'll have adventure and satisfaction of sitting inches from lions, leopards, elephants, hyenas, zebras, water buffalo and the rest.

Food - really high standard and cooked to all tastes. Local meats and vegetables, you will not be disappointed or hungry!

Customer service and atmosphere - the feeling is one of "home-from-home", the service and focus on the customer is outstanding, all the staff are genuinely friendly and interested in you, great fun to chat with!

In the bush - our driver was Dave, and our tracker was Jacki. They managed to find us everything, at the right time (not quite 'on demand'!!), and we had total faith in the skill and judgment in getting us (quite literally!) inches from all the Big Five and others, day or night. Jacki even found me a chameleon, and what they didn't spot wasn't worth seeing.

If you are going to try one safari in your lifetime, you must go here.

Cheers..........Nic

Room Tip: All the rooms are equally as good.

We spent 5 days in Motswari and had a fantastic time. Being locals and essentially spoilt for choice, we were looking for a game viewing experience in comfortable surroundings that didn't break the bank. And I think that Notswari certainly met the criteria.
The lodge is a very short drive if you fly into Hoedspruit and about a 3-3.5 hour drive from KMIA.
Beautiful setting, comfortable room, with great views, generous sized beds and nice linen. . Fantastic staff, really friendly and happy to go the extra mile. The food is hearty and generous, not gourmet, but hearty. The game sightings were amazing and you spend a lot of time with your ranger and tracker in the veld looking for game. We were incredibly lucky to spot the Big Five plus lots of other animals.
The lodge isn't fenced in and the vehicles can leave the road when they spot game or tracks, which add to the general excitement.

For me the big question I always ask post a trip is, would I go back? And in this case a definitive "yes".

Thank you for the most incredible experience. We returned home overwhelmed by the friendliness of the staff, the incredibly beautiful surroundings of the lodge, the delicious food and the amazing luck we had spotting animals. This lodge is world class and the guides (Angie and Goodman) were excellent and 'one with nature' as they closed down on the most wild of African animals (and scary little beasts including scorpions, spiders and other critters that interested me in particular!). The decor of the lodge was fantastic and one really feels the owners', Marion and Fabrice's subtle artistic touch and love for the animals and nature throughout the lodge. We loved our night in the 'Bird's Nest', which was a night to remember for ever (after we spotted a leopard making its way towards us in the dead of the night while we lay up high under the stars in the stilted hut). One further point to note - on top of the already impressive food- was the lodge's ability to cater for our dietary requirements, which they accomplished extremely well. The staff were genuinely kind and friendly and they all seemed part of one big happy family. We simply can't wait to go back!

After 60 kilometers of driving across pure nature in the Timbavati park with the last 4 kilometers on a gray road you arrive in the paradise of Montswari. Our lodge named lion had the perfect African Atmosphere, borders to perfection with a view on a riverbed with all kinds of animals passing. Services and gastronomic is on a high level but above all this amazing game drives with impression that we took back home and will never forget.
Very important is the knowledge of the ranger and tracker during the drives. We had Marca and Petro. Those guys combine great driver capacity, knowledge about the roads, animals, plants but also great communication capabilities to educate their guests. Absolutely to recommend. Value for money.
