We stayed at this place because of the so many excellent reviews, but I wonder a little now, if those reviews are real.
We arrived at this place in the afternoon, after 4pm when we were supposed to check in, only to be met by the " maids " who were still cleaning and mopping because " they had such a busy day".
Their kids were running around, the tv was on to the cartoons, so we told them we would come back later.
We came back later and the house is " cute " . It has reproduction stove and refrigerator. We figured out they were reproduction when we saw the microwave. There was no microwaves in the 40's and 50's. At least not for personal use at home.
The house is old, really old like 1920's or so. The windows are sealed shut so you can never open them to get a good breeze.
The furniture in the place, the wood furniture anyway, is all antiques but broken, worn out, falling apart, wobbly.
Funny thing about this place is that every thing was unplugged when we came. Try finding a light switch in the dark. All the lamps were unplugged.
I know we would unplug things in the mountains because of thunderstorms, but according to the locals, there hasn't been any weather or storms, just hot.
Thank goodness we had the good sense to bring our own towels, our own pillows and our own reading pillows.
The pillows in this place are disgusting. They are so worn out and so used they are perfectly flat. Talk about gross !!
The comforter on the bed is so gross that it looks like it was worn out a long time ago. Gross ugly bedspread, looks as bad as the old vintage worn out broken wood furniture.
And another funny thing is the bed.
We laid a level on the floor in the living room, the floor is level.
We laid the level on the floor in the kitchen, its level, and in the bedroom as well. But, there is something about the bed. When you lay down your head is lower than your feet. So you end up sleeping with your feet up and your head down, had to use an extra pillow, that I brought along to prop my head up.
We brought our own cast iron skillet to cook with, our own steak knives and our own baking pan. Even though there is stuff in the house to use, we brought our own. I don't like cooking with junk.
The yard is a broken down mess. I heard from the locals that they didn't get much snow this year, so there is no excuse of heavy wet snow weighing things down and breaking them. But a wheel barrow in the front of the house was all broken up and the things in it were broken.
Little things like mushrooms on sticks were broken or falling apart..
The maids tossed a Christmas rug or mat into the yard because its no longer Christmas .
Fencing going down to the river was broken, its a hand rail you're supposed to be able to hold on to for safety, it was broken,.
The iris's in the yard are pathetic.
We never used the Jacuzzi. And there is a grill on the back porch that was so dirty, my husband would not use it.
There is a downstairs to this place, but we never opened the door and never saw what it was like.
The first night I couldn't sleep because I felt like we were over charged and taken advantage of ~ for this ramshackle pile of wood. Way too expensive and that ridiculous security deposit... just that. Ridiculous.
And after a day, the 2nd night the place began to grow on me.
Sitting on the back porch listening to the wind in the trees, the songs of the birds, the hummingbirds zooming by.. that was kind of nice.
But, no. Its a nice walk to the shops. But no privacy at all. Anyone could look in and see you at any time. Its a state law that windows in bedrooms have to open, none of the windows open.
No, its over priced for what you get. Way over priced. And it is not cared for.
The owner doesn't come by, obviously doesn't care about the yard or the outside.
Someone decorated it nice inside with a lot of nostalgia, but still way over priced.
Bottom line: way over priced;
This could be a really nice ~ really nice ~ vacation home ~ if someone would bother to fix it up and clean up the yard. It could be really nice. But the only nice part of this place is what God already put there with the trees, the breeze and the birds.
