“Luxurious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2012

My husband and were originally supposed to stay at the Lion Sands River Lodge (which was fabulous!) but we got upgraded to the Ivory Lodge for our last two nights. The staff were so accomodating and the food was magnificent. This lodge caters a lot to honeymooners and couples who prefer a lot of privacy. The private plunge pool was amazing and the room and living area were immaculate. It was our honeymoon and the staff decorated our room with rose petals and had champagne waiting for us when we returned from dinner one night. The staff really pays attention to detail and they cater to your every need. They even have a hatch in the living room where they bring you coffee in the morning before the first game drive and you can have all of your meals delivered that way if you want. We preferred to dine on the main deck, but we did get a couple meals delivered. This is the most luxurious place I've stayed! The game drives were great and we saw the Big Five within the first couple drives. I would highly recommend this lodge. If it's too pricey, opt for the Lion Sands River Lodge, which is also great.

This property is magical from the moment you enter. Animals wander by on the drive in. Walter greets you dancing at the gate. Food wonderful, ambiance spectacular. the guides have a great knowledge level, and infuse FUN while keeping you SAFE and finding the Big Five. Sundowners are fabulous too......simply perfect.

Room Tip: Any room is perfect, really. I went into several, as we had 6 rooms.

I agonized over the decision of which safari lodge to book - I read all the reviews on TripAdvisor, I pored over the web sites, I spoke with travel agents and in the end booked the Lion Sands Ivory Lodge and could not have been happier with our stay there. I don't see how any other lodge in South Africa could be rated more highly as (almost) everything was perfect. The rooms, which are really stand alone villas, were spectacular with their own plunge pools overlooking the river where you could see elephants, hippos and buffalo watering and cooling off. The staff was fantastic and knew our entire group of three couples by name by the time we had finished the first meal. The ranger and tracker were excellent and we saw an amazing array of animals including all the big five. The food at breakfast and lunch was delicious but - here comes our group's only criticism - the dinner selections were a bit ambitious for the kitchen and were generally not as good as the other meals. Really, duck should be on the menu in a French restaurant but not at a South African safari lodge. So don't go for the more adventurous offerings on the dinner menu and you will be fine!

Ivory lodge was our third trip to Sabi Sand in the last 2 years and we've enjoyed each lodge, but Ivory lodge definitely stands above the others! Absolutely beautiful, spacious suites and a professional staff to round out the experience. From the moment we arrived, each staff member knew us by name. Lorraine, the chef, is wonderful and we never went hungry. Thank you to Robyn, the manager for seeing that everything was perfect. And a big thank you to Landon and Eddie, our Ranger/Tracker team! We have been on many game drives in many locations and they were one of the best teams we've had. Landon has actually been at Ivory for over 9 years. Even with rain and not being able to drive off road, we saw everything and experienced even seeing a baby elephant less than an hour old! This is actually one lodge that I might return to next year. You won't regret your decision when you go to Lion Sands Ivory Lodge!

Room Tip: Peregrine doesn't have the best view of the river bed for game viewing from the plunge pool.

We had very high expectations before we got there because of the tripadvisor reviews, these expectations were exceeded. This is an incredible experience and won't be forgotten. Service is so good you feel like the employees are family. Big shout out to Enock, Sam and Aubrey.
