This was such an enjoyable stay. The staff was amazing, the guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly, the accommodations were awesome. Great food, everyone was really nice. There are a lot of choices in this area, but the small, boutique-style accommodations make this venue special. Highly recommended for couples. Might not be the best for kids as they might get bored.

This was my first safari experience. Words cannot describe how awesome our holiday was. We arrived by small plane and was collected by Rodney. Within 15 minutes we arrived at the beautiful lodge. Lovely to be met with a delicious drink and taken straight to our suite. If you can push the boat out, this is the suite to stay in. Absolutely beautiful interior design. Perched just in front of the waterhole. Huge. Moor like a sprawling house! The excitement of seeing my first elephant at the waterhole will always live with me. I didn’t realise he was the tip of the ice berg ! Our wonderful guide Jaben continued to enthrall us. Seeing the gorgeous baby rhino and the amazing leopard kill was mind blowing. I cannot recommend the lodge more. The food, hospitality and attention to detail were second to none. I have travelled quite a lot but this is the first time I’ve given a 10. Emotionally overwhelming experience. I’ll be back. Thank you so much guys.

Room Tip: Stay in the Waterhole Suite. Stunning !

At the recommendation of a friend, my husband and two teenage sons stayed at Simbambili Lodge in December 2017. It was an amazing three-day experience for all of us! Our first time in Africa, we arrived at lunchtime a bit jet-lagged with only a vague idea of what was going to happen.

Walking in to the main dining lounge with open-air views of elephants at a water hole was a wonderful introduction. We literally forgot about the outside world as Simbambili was so breathtaking. All of the staff, especially Ashley and Tanya, were incredibly friendly and helpful making us all feel so welcome.

Our lunch, as with every meal we had at Simbambili had after that, was superb. Hut style accommodation with a private pool and timber deck was luxurious but classically simple making you feel part of the natural environment.

The best was yet to come. That afternoon, five minutes into the first game drive, our guide Mike had us up close with zebras, baby elephants and giraffes. We had never expected anything so fantastic – even the teenage boys were speechless!

The next two-and-and-a-half days were amazing. Mike went out of his way to ensure we had the best experience possible. We saw incredible wildlife and have memories that will stay with us forever.

Our stay at Simbambili, although only three days in length, was definitely one our most memorable holidays. We all highly recommend it!

If was our first Safari experience, so our comparison base is limited, but by any strecth of imagination it is hard not to be more than happy about our 4 days at Simbambili.

It did start rough though, with a 2 1/2 hours back spine testing transfer from Skukuza airport (would recommend to fly to Hoedspruit even if Skukuza is a little gem, never seen such a pristine micro-airport!) mostly through rain damaged roads within not very charming local villages and spread out towns.

But the initial pain was well forgotten when the gates of sabi sands reserve were crossed. We were welcomed in a small albeit elegantly designed luxury lodge with large, beautifully decorated private bungalow as our residence for four days.

The safari experiences were stunning, even from people who had been on several before. Our range-tracker duo combined passion, expertise and incredible instincts and sight, to a point that they obviously more passionate about animals then humans (I see this as a plus by the way!!) and we appreciated the silence moments as much as the explanations.

The service as a family-touch and includes your entitled "butler" and great surprises like room or bush dinners. For our European more introvert background the number of times we were asked if everything was ok was even too much, particularly in obviously contemplative moments. But the atmosphere is of genuine caring and making you feel privileged and part of a small circle.

But the location and the richness of the fauna is the main point right? Well from that point of view it's all thumbs up, you might not get far sight but the variety density of animals are amazing.

So all perfect, of course not, always small room for improvement, even though some of it is question of taste:

- between (very) early morning and late afternoon safari drives or walks ( the latter a must-do in my view) there is a lot of time...a refresher of the gymn (full with stains, old equipment, partially used as storage) woudl not hurt
- food is good and blends local flavours and produce with more international classics...but it could at times bit more refined and have lighter options
- an effort could be done to improve the staff accomodation (guests are not supposed to see them but other lodges seem to treat their personnel better in that sense)

Room Tip: With only 8 bungalows all overseeing the same dry river bed, the only question is how far you want to be from central lodge room...

This is the perfect safari experience. Game drives are the best part, especially if you have the excellent Justin and Willies to guide you. The animals are up close and personal, and so close to the vehicle that it seems like you are living in a fairytale. We were warmly welcomed by Halley and Ashley, and had a great stay.

Room Tip: All good great views of passing animals
