I don't think I would love the roads in the winter but what beauty in the summer! Even if you don't stop to camp, hike, etc. driving through Cimarron Canyon State Park is great for the spirit.

A friend sampled several spots on the Cimarron River for trout while I walked around and marvelled at the fast moving, clean river and the towering rock of the Palisades area. Beautiful area just to drive through but exploring on foot was even better.

Cimarron Canyon State Park is great place to experience the outdoors. In the summer there are several fishermen working the banks. One of my family's favorite hikes is Clear Creek Falls. A nice moderate and shaded hike to pretty waterfalls.

It is free to drive through the park and enjoy the scenery, but if you plan to park and hike or fish there is a $5 fee per car. The drive through is very nice and scenery is pretty. We hiked the Clear Creek Trail. It is a nice trail that runs along the creek. The day we visited the visitors center was closed so I never found out how long the actual trail was. You do have to walk along the road a little bit to find the trail head - it is not at the parking spot. We ate lunch at the picnic area and looked around at Palisades Sill. It is a nice park, but not much to do.

On a solo motorcycle journey. Stopped here in May. Simply beautiful. Spent a night at the Maverick Campground. Nice and quiet. Restrooms clean as well as the campground. Nice camp host. Nice pond nearby as well as not far from the river. Very peaceful.
