“Landmark wine estate”
Reviewed 22 February 2012

Public areas have been recently renovated. This is a well known estate frequented by many tours, but the quality of the Shiraz wines are outstanding. The gardens and restaurant and well blended to make for a great venue to soak in the atmosphere and the surrounding mountains.

“Lovely La Motte”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

We have visited Franschoek many times but always seem to miss La Motte. So on our last trip we made it our second stop of the day.

What a beautiful estate we enjoyed the beautiful statue at the entrance. The tasting room is elegant and the tasting served with small breads something different. The shop has some lovely and unique, if a bit pricey merchandise.

We enjoyed the Pierneef museum and can't wait to return to the beautifully decorated Pierneef restuarant it looks fanstastic.

We loved the children's painting easels in the garden.

“Green, beautiful, inovative and modern”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

Unfortunately we didnt make it to eat here, -(important to book a table!!) but we loved the visit itself. It is a must to chill in the garden with a glass of their very special (delicious) Syrah - or/and taste their wine in the tasting room where the personell tells you all about La Motte's wine making history.

Checking the menu, I am positive the food is of top quality, like other places in this village. Still, after seeing many, the look of the kitchen and dining area in La Motte is definitely one of my favorites!
We are for sure going back! :D

“Top quality”
Reviewed 12 February 2012

We had an evening meal at the restaurant at La Motte on the recommendation of our hosts at Ashbourne House in Franschhoek, and we were very impressed. Our experience started at the imposing security gate, and continued up the long drive through the wine estate to the tasting rooms and restaurant.
We cannot recall eating at any restaurant previously where the tables were so generously spaced out - a far cry from what we are acustomed to in the UK where they seem intent upon cramming in as many diners as possible even if that means you can hardly get into your seat. Consequently, dining at La Motte proved a relaxing and enjoyable experience even before considering the food!
That is not to downplay the cuisine. It was top notch - a hugely enjoyable meal washed down with excellent sparkling wine at affordable prices that we can only dream of in the UK.
It was excellent.

“Prmier Wine Estate”
Reviewed 9 February 2012

Once past the cheerful security guard at the entrance you are enthralled by the beautiful mountainous vistas in the distance. The driveway to the winery is surrounded by impeccably cultivated rows of vines. The top of the driveway is dominated by a lovely statue of a lady looking out towards the Franschoek valley.
The winery has an interesting museum and art gallery and a decent restaurant.
On the day of our visit it was fully booked, watch out for large groups of tourists at lunchtime!
The winery has provided short rows of vines near the winery entrance with notes on each of the grape varieties grown there.

We enjoyed the tasting which for a wine expert was short on explanation and rather stilted. Our guide seemed to be remembering her prescribed script and did not wish to deviate from it when we ed questions. A black mark for this!
If you buy some bottles from their shop you will not need to pay for the wine tasting session.

One can purchase their wines at 2 well known outlets in the Uk.
