Always fresh and cooked to perfection, steamed veggies a must. Always helpful with suggestions when you are not sure what to have.

While visiting Waldwick, NJ, family members suggested Hunan Gardens for take out dinner on a Monday night. Our phone in order was ready in 15 minutes, piping hot and delicious. In fact, it was so much better than I expected. It is a small take out only operation in a strip mall just south of Wyckoff Ave on Franklin Turnpike (across from the Waldwick Methodist Church). Service was excellent!

A large variety of combo meals (that include pork fried rice and an egg-roll) run about $8. Alternately, you can order other dishes in various sizes. My Moo Shu Pork was absolutely perfect. You also have the option of changing the heat (spice) level of their "spicy" dishes. Portion size was very large.

With dinner for 5 of us running right at $45, there is a return visit in the future.

Well done, Hunan Gardens!

This is only a takeout Chinese food place. The food can sometimes be bland you have to ask for specific sauces and they are happy to do it . The ribs are meaty, the dumplings are tasty and the sesame chicken is good. I order shrimp with Chinese vegetables and they let me choose the veg, very nice of them. The fried rice could use more soy sauce but it isn't terrible. Most of the dishes are very acceptable, a lot of food and fast. Very nice family run business. Good local Chinese takeout.

We have been going to Hunan Garden for many years but have stopped going as we preferred in restaurant dining. We decided to make in simple and go for take out.

The menu is large and the staff are always friendly. Our touchstone for a chinese restaurant is the hot and sour soup. We get it every time with enough for a second day. This time the soup did have a slight touch of the sour but absolutely no hot component. The broth is rich and the bamboo shoots, chicken and tree fungus are good and the tofu is fresh and a high point of the ingredient. But the result was just not hot and sour.

We ordered the spare ribs where were very meaty and flavorful and could have been a main course on their own.

The two dishes: hunan pork and broccoli in garlic sauce were just weak. The Hunan pork was filled with thick slices of tender juicy pork loin with broccoli and carrots. The dish was coated with a very bland sauce and pools of oil. The ingredients were good but the execution was weak.

The broccoli in garlic sauce was the same, a bland sauce with pools of oil covering fresh crisp broccoli florets.

The portions are large so if you hungry you will get a lot of food, unfortunately, not well executed.
