This is a relatively small eatery with a bar that's always crammed with people enjoying a great selection of beers and terrific cocktails. They make a terrific bourbon old fashioned. But it's the food that really sparkles. Nothing gourmet but oh so good old fashioned home style cooking that stays on the palate. Start with the potato leek soup and you might want to forgo the entree and have another bowl. It's velvety smooth and leaves such great flavors in your mouth. I recently had the 1 lb. meatloaf with real mashed potatoes, grilled onions and a smooth beef gravy. It doesn't get any better. The rack of lamb is excellent as is the fish and chips. Friday is raw bar night. The service is always with a smile by young energetic servers and the owner, who could really double for Santa Claus without the beard is a charmer who is always there to say hello to all his customers.

Work colleague suggested this place for after work. About 15 of us went for drinks and some appetizers. The wings were good but not great. Not a fancy place, has decent bar food. The beers were good and cold. Bar scene was busy but restaurant was pretty light.

If you are looking to hang out and get a beer, this place works. If you are looking to get a nice meal, there are other places in the neighborhood to go. Service was good.

I love going to "the Pub" as we call it. The food is dependably very good and the prices fair. It's very family friendly and there often are a lot of families with kids of all ages. I often was there with my niece and her family when she was a toddler, and the mac and cheese was a sure fire winner as were the chicken fingers. For grownups, the roast chicken can't be beat with wonderful mashed potatoes. The burgers, fish, specials are all great. It gets crowded so get there on the early side to get a table. There are tables in the bar area but it gets a little noisy. In the winter, there's a fire going, and it's just a warm, wonderful place to have a great meal and some drinks (or Guinness!)

Went down to Seton Hall for swimming meet. Looking for a place for dinner after the event and settled on St. James Gate. Maplewood is a great little town and this Irish pub seems to fit right in. You get a warm comfortable feeling when you walk in they have some great Irish selections good Pub food. We got shepherds pie and the fish and chips. Both were excellent and a homemade chips were delicious

This is a place you will go back to. The variety of menu choices guarantee you and people you bring will have something to order. It's a neighborhood gem good for any occasion--to satisfy hunger with their big plates or just to hang out for drinks.
