This is our favorite restaurant in northern NY. Relaxed, laid-back atmosphere; delightful bar and separate dining areas. Wonderful all year round. Typical Irish pub fare: Bangers and Mash, Bubble and Squeak, Shepherd's Pie, and the Perfectly Pulled Pint of Guinness. Wife likes the Dublin Steak and the Roast Chicken. Families are welcome. A great place for lunch or dinner.

I've been here many times, and the restaurant is very consistent. St. James Gate is known for making one of the best hamburgers in New Jersey. They have an assortment of other great sandwiches, bangers & mash, and other foods we Yanks associate with the British Isles. They get a bit creative with Reuben sandwiches and BLTs.

They also serve Sunday brunch, which is a welcome break from the typical diners that dot the landscape. And yes, it's a bar, so they have beer, cocktails and such. Weekdays, I've never had a problem getting seated immediately at lunchtime, except on St. Patrick's Day.

So it's crowded and noisy and service is generally doing you a favor. Burgers are the best bet and beer. It's a pub that's all.
