We really enjoyed the homey hospitality at this place. The feel of the place is really informal and relaxed. We immediately felt right at home.

We had dinner there also and felt like we were in an English pub. British fare that was quite good, and genuinely friendly service. Exactly what I think an English Inn should feel like. I'd recommend eating here, though we did hear of some really nice restaurants in the Peterborough area also. It made for a really relaxing evening.

One important thing to note is that there were locals dining with us (and chatting with us, too) which added to the "pub" feel and really underscores how nice and welcoming of a place this is.

The custom-cooked breakfast was a great way to start the day. This was a real breakfast, eggs, omelets, toast, etc. Not a "continental" breakfast found in other places.

The town itself was quiet and quintessential new England with white churches and a small crossroads-of-a-town. A really good base for exploring the area.

Our room was very clean and comfortable, well appointed. An English theme, but not overdone. We had a small sitting area and the whole room felt very comfortable. The building is over 200 years old, and while the charm of that is there, the bathroom was modern and the room didn't feel worn or dirty as sometimes historic inns like this can feel.

This place exceeded our expectations, we look forward to going back and spending more time there.

Visited the little town of Temple, Nh and stayed one night at the Birchwood Inn. The host are so friendly and informative. You can tell they love their work. Supper was really home cooked and breakfast omelet was just right. Santa Clause was in the town square waving to people as we left....you can't get better than that.

These guys saved our vacation. We were in Vermont for Hurricane Irene and, unfortunately, had to leave because of all the terrible flooding. We picked a new destination and lodging in a matter of hours but it could not have turned out better!

Birchwood offers an incredible combination of an historic building, beautiful setting, thoughtful decor, great food and local feel. Even beyond these assets, the owners, Nick and Andrew, add a welcoming, helpful feel that made our stay incredibly enjoyable.

We stayed in the Brighton room, which had just been beautifully redone. The linens, bed and furniture were all expertly picked and truly high quality. We peeked into one of the other rooms (the oxford, I think) as we went to the common room upstairs and it also looked very nice (nicer than any place we had found in New England for comparable or even higher prices). The flat panel TVs with DVD built in were a great touch. They're not huge TVs but it was great to be able to pick from their DVD library and have something better than local news or crap network TV to watch at the end of the night.

We had never been to a B&B before and were somewhat wary of feeling like we were guests in someone else's house. But the set-up of the place was great for privacy and Nick and Andrew made us feel totally comfortable. In the end we wound up talking Nick's ear off! The breakfast was so great that we went to the tavern two nights for dinner as well. There were locals coming and going and a lot of the ingredients were locally sourced - the whole place felt very community-oriented, even with the English flair.

The area was also great. Monodnock was a fantastic climb; Peterborough was very charming; and Nick was able to recommend some great places to go.

Could not have asked for a better stay and would HIGHLY recommend to any couple or group.

The theme of Old England merged with New England is well played out in the decor, the food. The food was excellent! Beer selection superb! The owners are very hospitable and kind. We were happy to find that the locals come in during dinner for food and a drink, and the owners seem to know and remember everybody. We'll be back!
