This was a very unfriendly and not very clean hotel. We came in late in the day on a prepaid reservation and the reservation for our room was not there. No help, told me to figure it out. The management was not helpful. The room and facility was not very clean. The refrigerator did not work. We tried to move hotels even if we had to pay again but the town was full. Was a terrible experience. Did not even offer a drink or an appetizer for all the trouble. Nothing!!!

Room Tip: Stay at a different hotel. The Luxor is very nice

Just tired and not well kept anymore. Being off strip this is a property that has to shine if they want people to come back and it’s not doing such.
Water issues, horrific elevator problems and lack of shuttle are all downers.
For what ever money spent or experience I’m looking for even downtown options would be preferable in the future. That’s as a Diamond level TR individual.
The staff were good. Valet, front desk, & Invited guests area.

Pros:
1. Price: We got the room pretty cheap. The low price of $40.00 per night sort of negates some of the negatives, however, like other Las Vegas hotels, Rio is now charging $35.00 for a BS "resort fee". What do you get for this fee that you did not get before? Nothing!
2. Parking: Thank god the parking is still free...for now.
3. The room: All rooms at Rio are suites which we appreciated

Cons:
1. Fees: Ridiculous resort fees.
2. Smells: The casino smelled so bad. We walked around the casino and 20 minutes later, we smelled like ashtrays. I am not exaggerating when I say that we were coughing and our eyes were stinging from the smoke. Yuk! They need a better ventilating system.
3. The Buffet: Rio is well-known for their buffet. I have eaten here before because of the variety of cuisine. This time, we found out that the normal buffet was $33.00! That's almost as much as your 5-stars hotel buffet. If you want additional seafood, you have to pay an $20.00 more. That's $53.00 to eat a seafood buffet. We asked to talk around the buffet area. The seafood buffet area was impressive with their King crab legs, oysters, lobsters, shrimps, etc. However, there was no way I was going to pay $50+ for a buffet!
4. Casino: All their slot machines were lame. We have never heard of these games. Most were either ancient or unknown games. The only one we recognized was The Goonies. I went to their poker room and there was 1 table. Again, lame!

Conclusions: We were scheduled for 2 nights. After one night, we asked to cancel our room reservation and went to another hotel, which thankfully they allowed us to do.

Yes the rooms are a good size and yes they are advertised at a VERY almost too good to be true price but get in the door and EVERYTHING else is expensive. EVERYTHING. Although the ad says wi-fi- and parking is FREE..the hotel charges a substantial "RESORT FEE" to cover parking and internet etc. The hotel claims the pool areas are not included in the resort fee. When we visited the adult pools were closed for renovations leaving the other pools choked with screaming children. Also even though you book a non smoking room...there is a detectable smell of cigarette smoke..so when did they make the room non smoking? yesterday? A basic breakfast for 2 cost just over $30. I suggest if you choose to stay at Rio walk across the street and have breakfast at the Gold Coast Hotel. Also please be aware the Rio NO LONGER PROVIDES SHUTTLE SERVICE to the strip. It will take you about 20-30 minutes to walk or about ten bucks to Uber/taxi. Rooms have no information of what is happening or even where to find the buffet. Be careful buying show tickets from the hotel concierge...she/he will tell you not to trust the discount ticket centres on the strip. I would in future check with the discount centres before paying a hotel concierge for show tickets. All in all if you don't mind being OFF the strip I guess The Rio is OK it's not the best hotel/casino and it certainly isn't the worst.

Room Tip: You could have a city room for an upgrade but we didn't mind the mountain view either
