What a neat thing to see!! For anyone who has ever waited for a train to pass and started counting train cars as a way to pass the time, this train yard is truly something to see. THIS is where it all begins. This is where each train is "designed" and placed on the tracks. There truly is a method to the madness, and here, you get to see that method in real time!! On the day of our visit, a train of more than 130 cars was being constructed and rolled out. It was laden with military vehicles, bound for some National Guard Reserve base in the east. How exciting to think that two days from now, those vehicles will be unloaded and ready to use!! And I got to see them at step one of that process!!
This is something you should see. It gives viewers a new appreciation for the amount of work and organization it takes to move goods across this country!

It is somewhat difficult to separate this attraction from the Golden Spike Tower because, to see the Union Pacific Railroad Bailey Yard, at least to look down upon it, you go up into the Golden Spike Tower. All in all, IF you are a bit of a railway buff, this is a DO NOT MISS ATTRACTION.

Excellent host in the tower who explains the comings and goings of the rail cars to make this the busiest rail yard in the world. Beautiful amazing views! Just fascinating to hear the former employee of the rail yard tell us what he knew.

This is the biggest train yard I have ever seen. It is 8 miles long. The switching yard has 88 side tracks. Over 125 trains go through here each day. The locomotives refuel here and they use 18 million gallons per month. There is a repair facility that works on over 9000 locomotives per month. It is a huge operation. Come here us you live real trains.
