After a long day of Nordic skiing, we went to this restaurant for a late lunch. Unfortunately, the restaurant section had closed, but the bar was still open and so we ordered lunch in the bar and sat by their nice stone fireplace. They were very accommodating since I am gluten free. They substituted a gluten free bun for my burger and in place of fries that had gluten in them, they had homemade gluten free chips which were every bit as good, if not better than standard chips out of a bag! Had the whole bar to ourselves and had an enjoyable lunch. We would go back there again.

The sleigh ride dinner, while pricey, was wonderful. A romantic horse drawn sleigh ride through the forest on a starry moonlit night. Cozy cabin with delicious food. The cowboy singer/guitar player was a bit corny, but actually made it very fun. A special evening.

I recently had the pleasure of dining here with a friend of mine who is a server at LMR saloon. I was impressed with service, food and all around presentation of the courses ordered. We started off with a few starters such as the steak tartare, meatballs, fondue and pork belly. Out of all of those, the pork belly was the highlight for me. Salads followed and I thought there was WAY too much going on with the spin salad. I think they could have done without the egg. There was plenty going on with the raisins, candied pecans, tomatoes, and bleu cheese. For our main course we had the bison short ribs, NY strip, pork chop, and chicken fried dinner. I thought the presentations were beautiful and quite tasty.

This was our 2nd trip to Big Sky for downhill skiing. We decided to celebrate our anniversary a bit late with the sleigh ride dinner at Lone Mountain Ranch. It was great. The people were all friendly, the service was great. The food was excellent, and the best part was the ride through the woods to the cabin.
We were both a bit apprehensive about being cold riding in an open sleigh in 0 degree Fahrenheit weather, but they provide a very thick blanket. Between that, a warm jacket and hat we were fine.
They ask for you to arrive about 6:00, which is quite early, but we ordered a bottle of wine in their bar. We each had a glass and had the rest delivered to our table for dinner.
The trip on the sleigh was great. Don't expect to be by yourself, though. The sleighs each hold 12 people. It was still wonderful to be out in the crisp clean mountain air at night just relaxing and watching the stars.
The cabin is very cool. No electricity, but quite warm from the very large 1880's wood stove. Just lanterns and candles to light the place.
Food is served family style, with plates to pass. It was all excellent, and made from fresh mostly local ingredients.
There is a local "cowboy" who sings and plays guitar both before and after dinner. Most, if not all, of the songs are his own. You can buy a CD of his music at the end if you are interested. It was good, fun, local music.
Once the staff has cleaned up it is time to get back on the sleighs and head back. The ride back is a bit quicker as it is downhill, but is just as nice as the ride up.
All in all this was a great evening I would recommend as a nice romantic evening. Well worth doing once.

With high vaulted ceilings and log interior, the dining area was gorgeous. A large fireplace and variety of taxidermy topped it off. The service was very attentive. I had the bison steak. It was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful. For a nightcap, get the cozy cowboy coffee. When I think of Montana, this place is toward the top of the list.
