Review of Bunkhouse Cafe

Bunkhouse Cafe
Ranked #4 of 6 Restaurants in Babb
Restaurant details

After driving the Going to the Sun Road in East Glacier, we headed towards Babb to refuel our tummies, before crossing into Canada. Babb is really tiny, quite spread out and boasts two great restaurants. The Two Sisters Cafe looked crowded so we chose the Bunkhouse. Parking outside we met Chris, who invited us to enter the rustically decorated rooms. The young women serving were also Blackfoot and were on a break from University. The Cook we didn't meet, but he sure knew how to put together a delicious burger. We must have started a trend because the Bunkhouse started filling up. Leaving we had a short chat with Chris, telling him how much we had enjoyed our luncheon.

The decor and outward appearance of this place had us expecting plentiful, but overly-fried food, and not much variety or fresh fruits and vegetables. We were surprised to find both. The food was awesome, from the burgers to the salads, and the huckleberry margarita was delicious.

Bunk House pizza was our agreed upon celebratory dinner after hiking to Grinnell Glacier in Glacier National Park. We were exhausted, dirty, and hungry and had read good things on TripAdvisor, about their deep dish pizza.

The restaurant was almost vacant when we entered. There was one tableful of guests. This was dinnertime, so surpising to us. While we waited for the waitress to come, we each used the restroom. Wow. New experience for me. There is a door into the restroom, then a curtain hanging above the stalls, as decoration. No privacy. And there were a couple toilets there. Not usual in a woman's restroom. The sink ran constantly. When I mentioned that to someone at the counter, she said it had been broken for awhile.

We ordered pizza with a couple toppings. It was $20 for a large, which is a bit pricey to us. And added a salad for $3. The pizza was far from deep dish. Only one size and style were offered and it was very thin. The ingredients appeared to be fresh and everything was tastey. We had no leftovers. They offer a nice selection of pies, with what looked like homemade crust. We did not have any.

There were at least 2 waitresses, for the few tables of guests, but there was not a lot of motivation among them that we witnessed. Husband had to walk over to our waitress to pay the bill, as she was sitting at a table, looking at her cellphone.

Overall this was not a bad restaurant. The food was good. We were mainly disappointed in the thin crusted pizza. And the service could have been better. And it would be nice if they added another curtain in the bathroom, to give some privacy.

...ours was great! Different place, lots of old photos and the cowboy boot lamps are awesome. Old school and doesn't have a huge menu, mostly burgers, but the Wyatt Burp was huge and hot and great. fries were terrific too and yes, I know they are just fries. Good prices. The ice cream concoctions we saw floating by, looked amazing. We were very pleased and it was easy to find, unlike Two Sisters which is down the road a ways. We were very happy and very full - neither of us finished our food.

Stopped in for lunch after a hike. What a find! The burger was outstanding and the onion rings were the best I've eaten in ages. I'd go back just to get another helping of them. Our server (the girl with the pinkish hair) was also super. Helpful, courteous, friendly - couldn't ask for more.
