Best baklava ever, great atmosphere. Friends raved about the soups as well as the chicken tawa. The kind and generous folks there gave me not only directions to the train and the LRT, but also enough baklava to share with my roommate, thanks Babani's!

We went to Babani's based on a article in the Star Tribune. Although we had some difficulty finding the restaurant, it's located across from St Joe's hospital, because of the way St Paul numbers it's streets, it was worth the trip. We had the family style meal for two. It was wonderful. We each had a different soup and both were flavorful. The salads, included in the price, were ok but the entrees were outstanding. We choose Kubey Sawar,
(crushed wheat made into a dough and filled with lean ground beef, spices, and onion then sauteed in olive oil. this dish was first made famous in nineveh modern day mosul, iraq), Chicken Tawa
(chicken sauteed in lemon and other spices then baked in layers of potato, green pepper, onion, and dried limes. served with basmati rice) and a stewed chicken with broth that was fabulous. The servings were generous. The owner stopped by our table to insure we were happy with our meal. We will be returning with friends.

A coworker suggested this place to me for lunch. I hesitantly agreed because I'm a very picky eater. However, the food was fantastic. The food is definitely prepared well here, it seems they cook mostly everything from scratch. The flavors were really great and although it was different from what I normally eat I thought it would be well worth another trip. The food for the price is a really great value. The staff were also very friendly. Overall, it was a great new experience

I decided to have lunch at Babani's because it was close to my classes I was attending. The lunch did not disappoint me. I had chicken tawa. The meal included a small salad on the plate as well as the chicken, toppings and rice. I am not fond of chicken on the bone, but this was SO delicious. The meat really just fell off of the bone with a little poke of the fork. The juices were really yummy and I found the serving size to be perfect. I was full but not overstuffed. I highly recommend this place for people who are not afraid to try ethnic food.

After a tour of the capital in St Paul my son and I were really hungry. I clicked on the Trip Advisor app on my phone and saw Babani was a short drive away. In was a rainy Monday afternoon and the restaurant had plenty of available tables. I am delighted to review what a fabulous experience dining here was. My son is a picky eater. Talking through his likes and dislikes with the owners, we were recommended the Kubay Brin. This is a rice dumpling filled with spicy ground beef. The lady recommending it then went and cooked it for him. And he loved it! I had the Sheik Babani, a cored eggplant peeled in decorative stripes and filled with spicy meat and vegetables (www.babanis.com). It was served with a red sauce over Basmati rice. The hospitality and attentiveness of the owners was excellent. You can see the food being cooked. It is spiced impeccably and presented beautifully. This was one of the highlights of our trip to MN, WI, IL and IA.
