“Nice Place to Get Out in Nature With Some Exceptions”
Review of Silver Lake

Silver Lake
Ranked #10 of 66 things to do in Rochester
Attraction details
Reviewed 30 January 2018

There is a rather large flock of ducks and geese that live in this park year round. They are really neat especially in the spring and fall when they are joined by the migrating flocks. On nice fall, winter, and spring days this is a beautiful lake with a nice flat walking path.
The summer is probably the worst time of year to come to this park. During the summer the mosquitoes get bad, the algae bloom (due to lots of goose poop) is huge and stinky, and the geese/ducks can be very protective of newly hatched babies.

There is a peacefulness about Silver Lake—a small bit of water on the edge of downtown Rochester. It is a great place for a stroll and for goose watching. Winter is quieter than other seasons, but there is still a lot to see.

A great place to walk around the lake no matter what time of season. Watch out for goose poop though. Plenty of parking on all ends of the lake. 2 parks near the lake one on west end and another on the east end. There is a bigger park on the south end across the street.

The paved walk around the lake is about 3 miles. There are plenty of places to take a rest and for being in the city the scenery is pleasant. Canada geese are frequent in a few places so the pavement can sometimes have some "slick" spots but it is still a pleasant place in a city to take a stroll.

I used to really like walking around Silver Lake. Not anymore. All the tall weeds planted on thee shoreline keep you from seeing the water and enjoying the view. And the goose poop on the trail is gross. Maybe our great Mayor Ardell should focus on fixing up what our city already has instead of adding useless junk to the downtown where no citizens go and trying to force the Mom and Pop businesses out.
