Owner description: A copper 32-foot statue of a German folk hero.
Reviewed 26 October 2010

Hermann is a tall statue that is located in a small park on top of a bluff overlooking the city of New Ulm. It is the old iconic symbol of the city and dates back to over a century ago. The park has some picnic areas and you can climb up through the statue and have a wonderful view of the town and area. There is a small fee. However, the statue is pretty much only open on weekends in spring and fall and most days in summer. Otherwise you can have a look at it for free anytime. A similar statue stands in Germany but not in the sister cities of Ulm and Neu Ulm. Hermann was a German warrior roughly 2000 years ago who was a mercenary in the Roman legions for a while and later used what he learned to defeat the Romans in Germany.
