We have been regulars ever since they opened who know's how long ago that's been. I think its basically Cantonese with a lot of seafood, including live lobster and the usual Hunan and Sichuan variations we Americans have come to expect. And a vegetarian could be happy there as well, with sesame tofu and ample vegetable dishes. Almost never disappointing, Steamed lobster with ginger, plum duck, crispy chicken, fun noodles, sweet and sour soup (not to worry there is hot pepper oil on the table) are some of our recommendations. But I can't honestly say I have ever had anything bad when I've deviated from our favorites.

Lived in the Cities for 20 years, but moved away in 2011. Recently visited Shuang Cheng and ordered my favorite dish - available off of the white board not the menu - Chilean Sea Bass in Black Bean Sauce. The best seafood meal in the Twin Cities. Maybe the best meal in the Cities period.

Want a great meal at a great price with lot's of nice interesting people around? Shuang Cheng is the place to go.

I'm back in grad school and either need a good fill-me-up before class or a place to go with classmates after class. This is the place to go and it has been for decades.

Dinkytown has changed radically over the past few years. The core original buildings, where Shuang Cheng is, have remained, but the old single family student homes have been replaced with towering student apartments. As a result, the streets are packed with people all day and night. This make the whole area a seabed of fun, but with all the old-world charm. (Bob Dylan lived right above the Loring Pasta Bar, next door.)

For the most part, the food is Cantonese Style. While this is not my favorite Chinese cuisine, they do a good job of it. If you have a choice of fish or shrimp, take the shrimp. While the fish is fine, it should be better. My personal opinion is to stay away from the chow mein, lo mein egg-foo-young and chop suey unless you are into bland food.

They haven't raised their prices in ages so everything is a really good buy. It's probably also the reason why they are always packed.

Great place to get nourished!

Visited our daughter at UMN and had a late dinner in Dinkytown. Enjoyed the food at this restaurant. Reasonably priced and good service. We had to move due to a/c blowing and staff very accommodating. Will definitely return and try the lunch specials.

Son wanted Chinese before college move in. What a find. Authentic, large portions and reasonable priced. Plenty of seating. Service was prompt and attentive. Can see why it is popular with the students and locals in the area. Will return!
