We had stopped by this restaurant a couple of times in 2014 and 2015 and were very unimpressed. The location is beautiful and unique and we thought that it had great potential. However, the food was mediocre at best, the drinks were overpriced and the service was not the best.
We happened to stop there in 2016 on the first day that the new owners were in control and were told by the giddy server, "They're not going to change a thing!" We thought, "They'd better change MOST things if they want to survive!"
The fact is, that it's like a brand new place! The food is excellent (we've had the Lakeside Burger and the pulled-pork tacos--which were fantastic! BBQ pulled pork with a mango salsa topping. Highly recommended! Oh, and the $2 Leinenkugel Grapefruit Shandy in the 16 oz can was the drink of choice both of our first two visits there. Excellent drink special!
The place has been packed. Last time we tried to stop in by boat there was nowhere for us to moor and the parking lot was packed. Bad for us, but a great sign for the health of the restaurant and the success of the changes that the new owners have made.
Great job, Lakeside! Keep it up!
