“Impressive caves to discover in a very small group tour”

The natural formations are very impressive and lit with clear light so that the colours of the rock can be appreciated. The visit takes about 40 minutes with a guide speaking French and English.

We love these caves and have visited several times. They are not on the scale of Padirac but different because although some of the formations are just as spectacular, the beauty is that you almost have the place to yourselves.

We visited on the 1st May, a national holiday within France. In the belief it would quieter than other sites in the area. It was certainly that! On other days during the week,on passing, it was noted no vehicles were in the car park.

We would give had given the cave 5 stars, except that the car park is over 400 meters from the caves entrance. Uphill on the return trip, will zero possibility to drop off an aged pensioner with arthritic knees.

You are only able to visit with the one and only guide. A very pleasant young girl from Mayenne, whose English was good, which made the visit entertaining during the 45 minute tour. Our tour party consisted of a family of 3 adults 1 child and two ancient Brits.

Let's be honest, once you have been to one cave, all the rest look very similar. However, this cave is flat by comparison and does offer a very high roof, so is not claustrophobic or oppressive.

What to do with a teenager on a hot day? Take him in a cave!
Our guide was funny, knowledgeable, patient, not rushing anyone out or repeating a learnt-by-heart speech. He engaged with everyone in the group, welcomed questions and took the time to explain very well, showing exemples and differences, we had time to admire and enjoy, and preferred that visit to other more famous caves in the area.

Grottes de Presque are fabulous! Stunning! We just kept saying 'amazing'!

We've driven by several times and said must visit but only went today because it was raining.Have taken visitors to Padirac ... and wished now we'd taken them to Presque instead!

Nowhere near as as 'touristy' as Padirac - or as many steps!
And no queue (today).

Has much more fascinating character and,OK, it was very quiet today, but we had our own personal guide!

And it's definitely worth taking your camera.
