Bara Gaon means 'twelve villages' in Nepali, and it refers to the villages in the region generally known as Lower Mustang. My personal favorite villages are Kagbeni, the last village before Upper Mustang, which is a restricted area, and Marpha, somewhat lower down the valley, which is a friendly farming community known for delicious apples and comfortable lodges.
