We wanted to love this place. It has a beautiful view of Lake Superior. Has a nice deck out the front of your room to sit and relax. Has a pool for the ants.... but I don't think that's their fault as they are right on Lake Superior and it was a very sunny day. The beds were comfortable. That is all the good stuff. The rooms are extremely dated. I think they were clean but they are so old it's hard to tell. If you are comfortable with a room from 1975 at a decent price this might work for you.

My wife and I were exploring the UP and found the Birchmont to be not only centrally-located but absolutely charming. Becky and Jill were certainly part of the charm, as we began to learn why the UP is so wonderful. This was our base of operations as we explored the Painted Rocks and the Glass Bottom Boats shipwrecks tours, and made some friends in a brew pub in Munising. I think we're getting the idea where our next-year's vacation's going to be. AND -- we loved waking up to look out on Lake Superior.

We dashed in late and didn't have the time we'd like to spend in the room we got. The view is wonderful and accessible from a private balcony or shared veranda. Jill and the staff were delightful. The room would make a perfect base for touring the Marquette area. Fantastic beds! Our room with 2 queen beds was the size of the "suite" in a pricey Best Western I stayed at in Texas.
This is comfortable rather than glamorous, but you'd have to be overly picky not to enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: The building we were in had outdoor stairs and all rooms had lake views. Your choice!

Spent a night here with my wife on our way to Houghton last week. Chose here because of the high reviews, and we weren't disappointed. Very friendly staff, a very clean spacious room, all at a great price. We'll definitely stay here again. Not a huge, or hot breakfast, but it did the job. Perfect location for restaurants and shopping. I rated this a budget hotel, but only because of the low price.

Room Tip: No elevators, so if that's an issue, stay on first floor.

We stayed at the Birchmont for 3 nights. We upgraded to the family suite. It was a little musty in our room but otherwise clean. We loved being across the street from Lake Superior and the walking trail that runs along the lake. Overall we were happy with our accommodations.
