We had to be in Marquette early the next day and chose to stay the night before. The Imperial offers a good hospital discount and unmatched service. I wasn't sure when we would be arriving and the owner offered to put the key under the office mat so we could get in the room if no one was in the office. I had not provided any credit card info when making the reservation so this seemed like a huge show of faith on her part, but this is the U.P. and the people here are the best.
We found the key and unloaded the car. A couple of hours later the owners returned and I went down to the office to pay. Denise is very friendly and we probably could have chatted all evening, but another customer arrived so I returned to the room with some valuable knowledge she was kind enough to share with me.
The room itself was huge by hotel room standards. It had 2 beds, 2 chairs and a small table, another chair like a recliner, and a large dresser. Even with all that furniture you could have danced a polka in the middle of the room. It may also be the cleanest room I have ever seen. My husband declared the bathroom "sparkling" clean. Some people mentioned in their reviews that things were dated. I did not find things that dated and cleanliness is really the most important thing to us. I think the bathrooms must have been updated within the last 10 years. Everything in the bathroom was just fine. The shower had good pressure and the towels were pretty fluffy. There was a large ceiling light fixture which put out enough light to do surgery in there.
The beds are firm, but we like firm beds. The linens were clean and fresh.
There is no fridge, microwave or coffee pot in the room. Since we don't drink coffee and were just there overnight, this did not cause us any problems.
Another thing that bears mentioning is that the owner spaced the guests in rooms around the buildings. I am assuming this was done so that it would be quieter for the guests. I know many hotels put guests side by side, clustered in one area to make it easier for the housekeeper. I was very impressed to see how spread out their guests were. Our room was quiet and pleasant. We did have neighbors downstairs on motorcycles, but we never heard any noise from their room, only the bikes when they arrived.
We need to return to Marquette again next month and we will be staying at the Imperial.
