Great homemade meals - breakfast & dinner included in price.
Lake Cora - very clean, busy at times with jet skis, power boats, pontoon boats (we were there over July 4th). It calmed down considerably after the holiday. Staff attentive and friendly. We stayed in the Beach House. Clean and right on the water and beach area. If you want privacy, pick a cabin further up the hill, but very convenient for people who want beach time and the water right outside their window!
BUT... everyone in our family reunion was taken aback by the additional 18% owed on the balance at time of check-in. We scrambled to come up with $356 dollars more (they don't take credit cards). Others in our party owed up to $670 MORE depending on number in your party. The additional amount included taxes, gratuity, and the ubiquitous "fees". Why or why can't quoted rates be just that? Also, if you have guests staying off site and they come for the day, there is a fee that can add up quite quickly.
All in all, a family friendly historic "lodge" (100 years old) with interesting antiques and framed newspaper clippings detailing the history of the place. Owners Bob and Susan always on site and super nice! They work 7 days a week. Patriotic 4th of July celebrations and decorations ~ appreciated.

Room Tip: Appreciated that the bathroom included antibacterial wet wipes for additional cleaning. I always forget to bring some with me for wiping down the room upon arrival (a bit germ conscious when staying in public places). Most small cabins are one room, plus bathroom, with a microwave and small fridge. Worked for us since hearty meals are provided AM & PM. Larger family group rented one of the homes with access from the road in front (but walkable across the property to the beach and lodge). That house smelled unpleasantly musty. Room in the lodge off the dining room was full of antiques including old clothing hanging on the walls (see pictures on website). A little too much clutter unless you want to be steeped in history.

Thank you for your great comments. We hope you had a memorable vacation despite the misunderstanding about the taxes.
We are putting it in larger, darker print on our web site under rates and our rate card which we wrongly assumed everyone read. Any misleading about the taxes and gratuity was purely unintentional and we will strive to better inform in advance.
We are old fashioned in taking checks only, we know, but all hotels have to charge these taxes. It's the law. You're so right, with a credit card, one would hardly notice until they were on the way home. I know, we say it every time we leave a hotel.
As for the gratuity, most are happy to leave a gratuity for great service and well kept grounds, but few do. So we charge that amount so that the staff, most of whom you never see, are compensated with bonuses for good work at the end of the summer. As it is all inclusive, this is the avenue to level the playing field.
We are always grateful for comments of any kind and you were so sweet to say all the good things as well as expressing your concerns. We fully appreciate your sentiments.

With kind words like your own, we hope to keep this going for years to come. We realize we have a niche here that is old fashioned and many people going back in time to a simpler day. Just like you did as a child. Thanks for the boost.

Our group gathered in Lawrence Michigan at Oak Cove resort for the 23rd year! My family stays in Mom's Meadow Muffin cottage, facing East looking over Lake Cora where I watched the sun rise on the mornings that I was awake. We love Susan and Bob's hospitality. They make us feel like part of their family and we feel that they are a part of ours. The breakfasts and dinners are plentiful and delicious. I particularly love the peanut butter pie for dessert as well as the cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Lake Cora is clean and beautiful and they have a nice sand beach with 2 swim rafts. We bring a motorboat and jet ski which we tie up on their piers that we also fish off of, though they have quite a fleet of row boats, canoes, paddle boats, kayaks and standing paddle boards.

The staff is helpful and friendly, helping us with our needs or any quick repairs, and the waitstaff are mostly local high school students, learning beautifully about hospitality from Susan and Bob.

We had another wonderful week at Oak Cove and begin counting the days until we return next year.

I brought my sales team to the Oak Cove Resort for a regional meeting. Bob and Susan were fabulous hosts and made all of us feel like family. The property is on a beautiful lake and the outdoor activities were just what I wanted for our group. Bob and Susan were very accommodating in helping us with meeting space and all other requests that we had. A number of our group plan on bringing their families to this place for vacation and reunions. Awesome time was had by all!

You all were fun guests to have here. I said to you: "Did you bring my tape?" and you said: "You are never more than ten feet away from one of our 80,000 products!" Really? I had no idea! We learned a lot from you.
What a great company and you take good care of your employees. BTW, thanks for the safety glasses with the power lights. We have had an occasion to use them already. We do hope your colleagues come back with their families or that you have another meeting here. Thanks for the review and five stars!
