This is a cute little zoo that is well maintained. Although the collections isn't large, most of the animals have been rescued and there is lot of emphasis on conservation. The signage was very educational and all the staff we encountered were friendly and knowledgeable.

Pros
-Only $4/person if you live in Ingham county
-Wonderful to walk around on warm summer days
-New moose attraction this year
-Black spider monkeys are very active and fun to watch playing
-Bird house is open to go inside and buy feeding sticks for them to land on (mostly parakeets with a few slightly larger birds)

Cons
-Small zoo with animals you expect to see
-A couple of the exhibits are empty now
-The tiger, lion, and snow leopard exhibits are saddening. They are small, in my opinion, and haven't changed a bit in over 10 years. They've worn down paths walking the same route they did when I came here as a child. Would love to see improvements here above anything else.

Great small town zoo. Coming from NYC I can't compare to our larger zoo but the initiate feel, great hands on small animal area and train were highlights.

I've visited Potter Park Zoo many times over the years, as my in-laws live in Lansing. Potter Park puts on a great Halloween event and Christmas light display. The Halloween event is nicely decorated and has a mini Haunted Tunnel. Very cool. Although the Xmas lights have gone down slightly in quality over the last 10 years (no abominable snowman anymore!?!? No dancers? Fewer lights?), it is still a great place to have your children meet Santa Claus, decorate cookies, listen to stories, play games, and see the animals. The price of admission is very cheap any time of year, but be aware they usually charge for parking during the summer zoo season because the zoo is considered located in a county park. This zoo is not huge, but it is a fun way to spend the morning/afternoon and you will see a lot of animals. Potter Park is always making improvements and you will enjoy yourself at this zoo. The gift shop is nice, and there is a humble concession stand at the middle of the zoo which does not serve anything fancy, but it is cheap, fast, and gets the job done.

Potter's park zoo may be small compared to big city zoos but it is inexpensive and easy to do in an afternoon. Great for small children who get tired easily.
