“Wonderful house in Lakeview”
Reviewed 18 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

This is the nicest of the many houses we have rented over the years. It is simply but beautifully decorated - even the art was nice (that has to be a rental first). The house reflects the warmth and gracious hospitality of its owner, and we felt like welcome houseguests. Blue Cottage is clean and perfectly supplied with all the housekeeping and kitchen details that spell the difference between real comfort and basic camping. If you are a serious cook, I,d suggest you bring your own chef,s knife, but otherwise you will find most everything you could want for a week at the beach. I really can,t stress enough how wonderful it is not to have to worry about buying such things as garbage bags and ketchup, cinnamon, salt, and thyme. There was plenty of detergent for the dishwasher and full-size washing machine, soap, shampoo, and toilet paper for the bathrooms - even a bathroom scale upstairs for anyone so inclined after a week of homemade cobblers from the wonderful Michigan peaches and berries. There were lots of fluffy white towels, comfortable beds, and we never ran out of hot water. We loved the small but very inviting front screened porch, as well as the colorful and well-tended flower gardens. The gas grill was huge, much nicer than ours at home. The fire pit was great fun, with lots of chairs. Rickie supplied fire starters, as well as firewood and even long sticks for hotdogs and marshmallows - she had left a basket for us with hand-written note as well as everything we needed for a couple rounds of s,mores, plus a huge jar of Michigan sour cherry preserves. We had always stayed in New Buffalo, but much prefer Lakeside. The neighborhood is darling - quiet and pretty, with a well-kept stair access to the lovely Lake Michigan. There are several interesting neighboring shops and many beaches and quaint towns to explore. There is plenty to do with the kids on overcast or rainy days. I should note that we found the Meijer grocery store in Michigan City well-worth the drive for a large shop.

“Great place for a family retreat!”
Reviewed 3 July 2017 for a stay in June 2017

Great location in a quiet neighborhood a short walk from Lake Michigan. The house itself is nicely decorated and is full of items that Rickie was very thoughtful to have in the house for us! We had four households from our family staying in the blue cottage and didn't feel like we were on top of one another! The firepit in the backyard was a bonus! This was a great stay for us!

“Charming cottage in great area!”

I stayed here with a group of friends and our small children (ages 0-5). We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back next summer!

The cottage is charming and has everything you need, from beach chairs to bikes - even marshmallow sticks for your s'mores! The beach is a short walk away and the owner provides a little wagon to haul things to and fro. We loved the backyard and fire pit area where there were about 12 adirondack chairs perfect for relaxing.

Nearby are Warren Dunes, kayaking on the Galien River, wineries/breweries, and great restaurants, but we had the most fun just hanging right around the cottage. :)
