Owner description: The State Theatre has been a fixture in downtown Kalamazoo since 1927. The original founder of the theatre was Colonel William Butterfield. John Eberson was the renowned architect who designed the theatre. In line with theatre design conventions of the era, the idea was to create a unique atmospheric effect. The early roots of the theatre were found in the Vaudevillian tradition of performance. Many acts that frequented the State Theatre included opera, dramas, big bands, ballet, dance reviews, stage shows and movies.

I've seen many concerts here. Great small venue for any type of show. There's not a bad seat in the house and the acoustics are great. And it's a cool looking place too! :)

The audiences here are the finest in the world. Small Venue Artists enjoy the setting. They return year after year. We love the ones that play and they love us enough to play again. We Dance in front of the stage. They play, we dance. They play we respond. Not a dead audience here.

Just saw Pat Benatar at the State Theater and loved the venue. There doesn't appear to be a bad seat in the house. The acoustics were amazing - unlike the arenas. Close parking in multiple lots - easy to get in and easy to leave. The food and drinks were inexpensive and the people that worked there were friendly and helpful. We checked the 2017 schedule for other shows so we could go back! I won't be going back to arena concerts anytime soon.

The Kalamazoo State Theatre is a wonderful place to enjoy a concert, as my husband and I recently did. We don't go there enough, and need to make an effort to enjoy this local gem of a venue more often. Usually we are able to obtain seats in the lower level, but this time we purchased late and opted for the upper level for seating. The upper level seating is very cramped for leg room. We are not tall people, so it must be even more uncomfortable for taller individuals. In the future if we can not obtain seating where there is more leg room, we will not attend for that reason. If not for the cramped leg room, this venue would have rated an excellent.
