Description: The Kalamazoo Beer Exchange is a two-story multi-tap bar and grill located in the beautifully restored Globe Building in downtown Kalamazoo. Offering 28 rotating draught beers from around the world, The Exchange opens at 6 p.m., where draught beers are priced on real-time sales, like the stock market. Occasional "market crashes" drop beer prices to their all-time low. The food menu features pub fare with a twist, where classic dishes will be made new again.

A cool idea. Exposed brick. Millennials all around you.
I enjoyed the concept of the beer changing price based on a stock market setup based on what people were ordering most.
I had the beer battered fish and the it was just ok, nothing noteworthy. My friend who had the maple glazed salmon seemed to be more impressed. My boyfriend enjoyed his salmon sandwich, but again, not mind blowing. Paired with the nice atmosphere, though, it made for a pleasant evening nonetheless.

Some of the best onion rings and burgers in town. And one can purchase a fried bologna sandwich here. Great beer, too. Plus, there's always the chance that a great beer will cost less as more people share your taste. Don't forget the beer flights!

I was here in June and enjoyed this place. It has a good atmosphere and great beer selection. Prices are not too expensive. I did not eat. I just came here to have a couple beers.

The price of the beer is based on a stock market idea. They have crashes where you buy low and then it goes back to regular price. The Nachos and Onion Rings are amazing!

The Kalamazoo Beer Exchange is essentially two levels, and each has a unique vibe. The upper level is the larger dining area, and that's where you'll want to go if you're planning to eat a full meal. Although beer is clearly the "shtick" here, the food is amazing. They offer excellent salads and healthy options as well as classic pub-style favorites like fish and chips or burgers.

Downstairs, there is a bar vibe. That's also where the "beer exchange" is best witnessed. If you're up for playing along, this is the place to be - the theme is lost upstairs. I've discovered a few new beers thanks to "market crashes". I did bring some family to the opening of the beer exchange at 6pm hoping for a fun midweek beer, but it started late and few patrons meant there were no changes to prices. Just a heads up - if you're going for the gimmick, make sure the bar is reasonably busy first!
