I have been travelling to Costa Rica for the past 7 years. I usually go in May. I travel with a group of surf buddies and 3 years ago we discovered Tatanka! Giovanni, the Italian host is very nice and is happy to help you with anything you need. The pizza he makes is sooo good. It is really great to have gourmet pizza just steps from your room. There is no need to travel to Tamarindo to get a great meal. If you are a surfer, this is a GREAT place to stay. Tatanka is 5 minutes away from Playa Negra and about 30 from Marbella. Its a perfect spot to stay at if you want to surf these breaks. Not to mention, Tatanka is 1-2 minutes away from a little known beach break known as Supertubos or Escuelitas because it can throw super tubes and it breaks in front of the Junquillal elementary school. Also, there is a mini-supermarket right across the street where you can purchase goods for a very very very good price. There is a pay phone right outside the Hotel so you can easilly make calls with a calling card when the office is closed. All in all, Tatanka is a great spot for surfers/eco-tourists and anyone that is looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo. Oh, I almost forgot; just down the road from the Hotel is the beach. Its so close you can hear the waves pounding from the hotel. Also down that sme road you can arrange a horseback ride. I do it every time. The German lady that takes you is super nice and the ride is really spectacular. I really scored points with the girlfriend on that one. So, when in the area, make sure you stay at Tatanka.
