This beautiful hotel is family owned. It shows in the care and appearance of the hotel. Restaurant and bar also onsite, was maintained by professional staff. Food was good. Location was close to airport and docks. No hotel shuttle. The biggest drawback for me was, no lift/elevator. I have asthma, sometimes, stairs can be tough. But staff did carry our cases up for us.

While planning a trip to Boston, we were shocked by the price of hotels and had just about given up when I found the Winthrop Arms. We (3 couples) prefer to avoid big chain hotels if possible, preferring smaller, more intimate family run lodging. This place certainly fit the bill. The price was affordable. We would have liked to have oceanview rooms, but, although reasonably priced, they did not fit our budget. However, our rooms, which were the cheapest, were lovely. This hotel is in a beautiful location...steps from the ocean. We enjoyed long walks along the water and through the quaint neighborhood. Dave and Casey were very helpful before our arrival, answering questions by phone and email. Unfortunately we did not have much interaction with them during our stay. The restaurant was excellent (that info in a separate review). One warning: if you visit Boston on Sunday, check the bus schedule. They only run hourly and we had a long wait at the train station. Then, it turned out that the Sunday bus runs the entire route of the peninsula, which is apparently divided into 2 routes the rest of the week. So, after our long wait for the bus, we had a very long drive back to our stop (by that time, we were the only people left on the bus). We had been discouraged from taking the ferry, but we sort of wish we had tried it. Again, we loved this beautiful historic building in an excellent location and I would recommend it to anyone.

The highlights: value for money; really super nice staff; quiet street; bona vide views of the Atlantic Ocean, with sea breezes to boot! It is however, a little dog-eared and rough around the edges. That said, given the amount they charge compared to the prices of hotels downtown, I would certainly recommend.

We stayed here for only one night on our way back from a vacation in Cape Cod. We choose this Inn based on previous reviews, proximity to Logan International Airport, that it was outside of Boston and not your typical hotel chain. We were not disappointed! Dave, Casey (owners) and the entire staff were so friendly and accommodating. They made us feel very welcomed. When Casey heard we were from the Toronto area he came and talked hockey and baseball with us while we were having dinner. The rooms are clean, the common areas are very well cared for and the food was great! We walked to town for breakfast at Jac’s Cafe where the locals go (recommendation from Casey) and walked along the beach on our way back before checking out. We definitely will stay here again when we are in the area!

Off the beaten path, this motel is a good choice for a stay in Boston. We traveled after a late night flight and the motel clerk stayed up late for us to check in. The room was small but very clean and comfortable.
