Wonderful classic family run motel, Nice spacious accommodation for family with two rooms and kitchen area. Great service! We arrived about 8:30 PM, hot and tired from a hike in the area, and they re-opened the pool so we could have a quick swim to cool off. Nice breakfast, clean, comfortable, reasonable ... worked great for us as family of four with boys 10 and 13.

Room Tip: Families can choose nice efficiency rooms.

I got around to booking our lodgings in Williamstown a bit too late to get a vacation rental in the area, and the motel options closer in to Williams College, which was our destination, did not seem very appealing despite the low price point. Thank heavens we stumbled on the Berkshire Valley Inn through TA reviews; we'll never stay elsewhere in the future!

Despite the motel's appearance as a holdover from a bygone era, the new innkeepers Marty and Renee have actually done a fabulous job of updating the place and providing good value for the nightly rate. Although it is more than most of the motels in Williamstown, there is a great outdoor pool, a fire pit with provided materials for s'mores at night, and comfy rooms with lots of space, plus a solid continental breakfast. We originally booked a room with two queens and a kitchen/family room (which has a wood-burning fireplace, should you be here in the winter); the rate for this was $129--already a good deal. But when we arrived, Maria, the wonderful staff member who checked us in, said they'd upgraded us to a "slightly" larger room at no additional charge. This turned out to be a suite with an additional room off of the family room that had two twin beds! They'd read my request in the reservation for a rollaway for our tall teenaged son, and since they don't have those, they gave us the suite for the same price as the queen-bedded room. This was perfect for our needs.

While we were at the pool the day we arrived, Marty, one of the owners, sat down at a table nearby and we ended up chatting with him for a while. I commented that we were impressed with the fluffy, large, non-hotel-style towels (they had colorful stripes), and he said that was courtesy of his wife Renee, who works for Intercontinental Hotels (apparently in addition to working at this inn!). She knows how to add the nice touches that set a hotel apart from being a run-of-the-mill place. She apparently is the one who bakes the muffins and banana bread provided at breakfast--scrumptious! And I suspect she also chose the nice soaps and other toiletries in the bathroom, tastefully set out in a little basket for guests.

Marty also told us that he was the one who cleared the trees from the hill up above the hotel property, so that there would be more sunlight at the pool. Apparently when they bought the place two years ago, the shade was so intense that it was dark over the pool from 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Not so now; there are terrific views of the nearby mountains and the wind turbines/mills at the summit. He plans to eventually terrace the cleared area; I'm sure it will be quite attractive when he's done.

The unit we stayed in, #206, was part of the left-most building on the property (when viewed from the road). Marty said that they've renovated the interior of the units on the right side completely, but still have some work to do on the ones in our building. This was evident in that the carpet and cupboards in the full kitchen (fridge, microwave, stove!), as well as the appliances, which were quite dated. But the sink in the bathroom was new, and the shower fixture had great pressure and was at a good height. So all in all this is a great deal if you are willing to overlook the somewhat dated furnishings. Or if you stay in the other building, perhaps everything is up-to-date; we didn't see the interior of any of those units. But given the terrific hospitality and spacious rooms, we'd stay there again in a heartbeat. And eventually everything should be up-to-date. Beds were very comfortable; apparently ALL of the mattresses have been replaced, which is more than I gather can be said for other motels in the area.

Thanks to Marty and Renee, and Maria as well! We'll be back on our next trip to the Berkshires.

Room Tip: More updated rooms for now are in the building to the right of the office (when viewed from road). But more improvements are underway.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience here at the inn. It sounds as if my husband shared our entire journey with the property! We've spent many hours working to make it a comfortable and welcoming home away from home for our guests.

We hope to see you again - Marty and Renee

So we stayed another night to enjoy it fully. Clean rooms, good beds, clean pool, cosy bun fire in evening, breakfast with home cooking, much more than we expected for just 100$. On top the hosts are very friendly and helpful including local suggestions. Perfect location close to Mount Greylock hiking.

The Berkshire Valley Inn is affordable, clean and friendly. Breakfast is good and the staff is very helpful. The location is a fine home-base for wandering through the Berkshires. The outdoor pool and Marty's campfire are a bonus.

Terrific, helpful, and friendly staff. Not impressive from the road, and not the height of luxury, but a really welcoming and comfortable place to stay. Wide array of room configurations, so don't hesitate to ask for room(s) that meet your needs. Evening campfire by the pool and continental breakfast included. Like time travel to a very pleasant trip decades ago.
