Hoffmann Pottery is a small local shop that has been in business for 40 years as Edith Hoffmann does what she loves to do best which is make beautiful pottery. We visited Hoffmann Pottery almost 10 years ago with my two daughters when they were teenagers. I remember buying ceramic lawn ornaments then. We returned this year with my two adult daughters and my granddaughter. Her shop is just as quaint and Edith Hoffmann is just a friendly and welcoming now as she was then.
It was a quiet Monday morning as we pulled up to Hoffman Pottery. As we did, Edith came out of her shop to welcome us like family. She led us in and gave us a tour of her handiwork. She did not remember us 10 years ago – this family greeting is just her way.
As you approached the shop – to your right - her lawn is lined with ceramic lawn ornaments - frogs and human heads - that lead the way to the building. Inside she has beautifully patterned and color coordinated, hand crafted ceramic plates, cups, bowls, jugs, vases, frames, wind chimes, etc. on the walls and tables. We bought two wind chimes during this visit.
Her shop is a little out of the way on Rt 41 in West Stockbridge - a short drive from downtown West Stockbridge. She is about 2 miles south of route 90 exit on Rt 41 when driving south. You cannot see the shop from the road, but she has large colorful flags flying at the entrance to a narrow gravel driveway that will leads you to a small parking lot. Be careful when entering and leaving because the path is very narrow. There is an area of grass on both side of the gravel driveway just enough to support two cars passing at once.
