We have been coming to Red Lion Inn for years and its an amazing place. So much history and ambiance. The front porch is perfect to sit and have a drink and people watch. The Tavern has delicious food and there is always a good band at The Lions Den. It's an annual trip we look forward to every year. It's a Must-See for anyone.

Yes....the hotel is old. Yes....the floors are uneven. Yes....some of the ceilings have cracks. But you would too, if you were 245 years old. PLEASE don't let the travel snobs on TripAdvisor scare you away from this piece of American history.
Beautiful atmosphere and excellent service. My fiance booked the Holden Suite in the Stafford House for a surprise birthday getaway. The room was quaint and cozy with antique furniture and fixtures. The bathrooms kept with the period decor but with clean, efficient, new fixtures and tiling (I THINK the bathroom floor was heated!) This suite had a Queen bed and a day bed with 2 bathrooms. The master with a roomy glass shower and the 2nd with a beautiful claw foot tub. This room did not have a fire place but the Stafford House had a comfortable common area with a working hearth. One call to Shelley at the front desk and maintenance (Josh) had a roaring fire waiting before we even got back downstairs.
The Lions Den is a cozy pub downstairs from the main dining area with live music 7 nights a week. The pub menu had many interesting options as well as standards. We had an incredible ruben sandwich and wonderful chicken pot pie. The cost may be a little more than expected for some, however, all items are locally sourced, made in house and did not disappoint. The music and atmosphere was unhurried and relaxing but I would recommend getting there a good hour or so before the band begins as is was SRO by they time they started.
Take time to wander around the property and admire all The Red Lion Inn has to offer, collections from around the world and decorations for each holiday. We intend to go back soon to experience the Christmas ambiance.
The heated pool / hot tub area is very nice. It was a cold fall night, and the hot tub was a real treat. Well worth wrapping up in the complimentary robes and venturing out of the comfort of your room...

Room tip: Stafford House would be a good choice for a family/event with multiple guests. All rooms adjoin upstairs and down. Kitchen is available

The dining room is exquisite! Beautiful chandeliers and fireplaces! Very romantic setting! Staff was very attentive! Fireplaces set a great mood. Roasted red & yellow beet salad was very small and not worth $14. price. Prime rib came out barely room temp and very fatty. Warm brown sugar cake for dessert was very good. Not sure it is worth the hyoe

We've stayed here many times, but this time was to attend a wine dinner sponsored by a CA winery and a local wine shop. We got a nice discount on our beautiful room. Our stay wasn't very long, but we still had time to enjoy the lovely front porch, the gigantic pumpkins and the rest of the fall display outside.

Room tip: Some rooms have shared bathrooms.

We had a nice suite on the front left corner. Traffic noise was constant. If you go, ask for a room on the back facing away from the street. Room was clean but furniture and wallpaper definitely showing age. Watch your step on the stairs as carpets are threadbare in spots. We were there for a wine tasting and dinner. Wine tasting was delayed somewhat and although we were seated for dinner at 7:15, main course was never served until 9:30. Food was ok but vegetables undercooked, lamb stew undercooked. After dinner we went to the Lion's Den for music but the musician had failed to appear. Our friends stayed it a room with a clawfoot tub which was quite dangerous for an older couple. Very high sides and no grab bars.
There is coffee in the bar in the morning but get there early. The coffee/tea is not monitored and the pots empty quickly.
The lobby had limited seating and was very crowded during the day. We have traveled all over the world but found this to be a frustrating experience devoid of the service one would expect of a fine old inn. Most definitely will not return. Too many nice B&B's in the area.
