“A fun weekend away”
Reviewed 18 March 2012

We purchased a deal on TravelZoo for two night here for $299, including $100 in dining credit, which means we paid $100/night for a queen room. I'm very happy with this, but I think I would have been disappointed if I'd paid full price. The hotel is gorgeous and the public areas are warm and inviting at all hours. Our room, while clean and beautifully wallpapered, unfortunately featured a very creaky bed and very thin walls which disturbed our sleep considerably. We could hear the conversations and TV in the rooms next door, and also people walking around the hallways. Worse, though, was the bed, which creaked so much that I woke myself up rolling over multiple times a night.
The pool and hot tub area were great, and busy all weekend.

We used our dining credit to eat dinner in the main restaurant. The food was very good but I think quite expensive for what it was. This seems to be the norm for Stockbridge though, as we also ate at Once Upon a Table, which had a very similar menu and very similar prices.

I would happily return for a similar rate, but I'd want a much better room if I were paying full price!

We booked a room in the Yellow House around the block from Red Lion Inn over the Christmas holiday. It was a private house and we had half of the top floor. There was a spacious living room, separate bedroom and bath with a soaking tub & free standing shower. The outside had a deck that must be nice in the summer. It was quiet, even with a family below us for part of the stay. The Red Lion Inn owns quite a few buildings in the neighborhood and this was one of them. The look was old fashioned, with chintz slipcovers on the furniture, flower patterned carpeting and just a general colonial feel. We ate one breakfast in the main diningroom which was fine but pricey - plus the waitstaff was overwhelmed, so it took a while to get the food. On subsequent mornings we went to the main street and ate at the little coffee shop. The food was fresh, coffee was good and the price was right.

This place is full of charm, character and authenticity. I have stayed several times in the main building in twin rooms with shared bath. All the rooms had details you just can't buy. The doors are old wood, not modern MDF, the handles are bronze, the bed frames are wood, one bed had a crotched canopy to cover the dark wood frame, the floors slope slightly down the long hallway, and respond to your walk down the hallway in a pleasing old house way. that might put some people off - it shouldn't. You feel like you are staying at an authentic old New England house that serves as an Inn. Disney couldn't do it better. Our room is always decorated with a small bud vase with fresh flowers. The beds are comfortable and have high quality linens. Getting a room with shared bath is the most economical way to stay here, and it is easy to travel down the hall to the shared bath as the rooms are provided with very big and comfy robes. Rooms are also equipped with a sink. So only necessary to use shared bathroom in hall for shower. I do not find any of the furniture is worn. The public rooms are decorated like a country inn with antique furniture.
The breakfast is outstanding! and served in a beautiful dining room, The table is set with traditional blue china and silver service, and again fresh flowers in silver vases. This is a very special place.
Stockbridge is an excellent location to visit all the sites of the Berkshires.

My wife and I love the Berkshires and have wanted to stay here on a trip. We made a little trip out with our one year old and had such a great time. The room was very nice, clean and the double shower was superb. Any questions of the surrounding area were answered easily by the front desk. We found the gravesite in Pittsfield we were searching for with their help in getting there. Our son had so much fun wandering the grounds with me looking at teapots, old dishes, mini Eames chairs and anything else. Both dinners were amazing as well. Our first dining night was smooth and our son was a little star. Our second night, he was cranky and he staff adapted with us and turned it into the best room service meal!!!! The smell of the fire and the conversations we had with other guests still linger on our nose and memories. So glad we finally had the chance to stay. Very, very worth everything. I'm ending this note now, though we will never forget and stop talking about how amazing the hotel and our stay were!!!

My boyfriend & I stayed at the Red Lion Inn for two nights over President’s Day weekend and it was perfect. We stayed in the Stevens House which had a large common living room with a fireplace and modern kitchen. Our room was nicely decorated and large with a very comfortable King Bed, two desks, and additional seating. After walking around the halls of the Red Lion Inn, I’m very happy we stayed in the Stevens House and not the Inn. The Stevens House afforded us a little more privacy and parking was just behind our house. We also had a private bathroom where I believe some of the rooms at the Inn have shared bathrooms. That being said, the main Red Lion Inn was very convenient and great for dinner and drinks. The service we encountered from all Red Lion employees was very friendly and helpful. The Stevens House is a short block walk to the Inn, which is the heart of quaint Main Street Stockton. There aren’t too many dining options in Stockton, but all of our meals were satisfying. We ate dinner one evening at the Red Lion Tavern as it’s a little more casual than the main dining room, but the same menu. The food was quite good. We also enjoyed an evening of drinks and a cover band at the Lion’s Den, also at the Inn.
There’s not too much happening in Stockton, but if you are looking for a low key New England town, it’s perfect. Would highly recommend the Norman Rockwell museum which is not more than a 10 minute drive from the Red Lion Inn. The Red Lion Inn is about 15 minutes from Butternut Ski area and about 35 minutes from Jiminy Peak Ski area. We also ate dinner one evening at the Barrington Brewery which has excellent house-made beers and about 10 minute drive from the Red Lion Inn. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Red Lion Inn as a quintessential New England escape.
