Review of Fishermen's View

Fishermen's View
Ranked #9 of 70 Restaurants in Sandwich
Certificate of Excellence
Description: Fishermen's View is a restaurant, seafood market, and wholesale complex bordering the Cape Cod Canal and Sandwich Marina that is owned and operated by local fishermen. Brothers Robert and Dennis Colbert opened a family-owned business delivering a "boat-to-table" experience in summer 2016. It features the brothers' three core seafood products (lobsters, Jonah crab, and scallops) among other locally caught seafood, for both classic New England dishes and innovative seafood fare. The restaurant and market is surrounded by action, including views of the canal's diverse vessel traffic, a nearby playground and park area, and access to bike and walking trails. Be sure to catch the frequent un-loading of the Colbert brothers' three fishing vessels at the nearby dock and winch provided by the town of Sandwich! As fishermen working in the area for over thirty years, Robert and Dennis Colbert are excited to build a space for the local community to enjoy fresh local seafood with a spectacular view!

Our group met here for dinner at 5:30pm and we were glad we came when we did, as it was only a 10-15 minute wait, but just after we arrived the hordes started coming and I heard the hostess say that it was an hour wait for inside seating and 45 minutes for outside.
The drinks were delicious, the chowder was good and the Jonah crab crusted haddock was fantastic. The only reason I didn’t give this place 5 stars was because while there were outside heaters, the one closest to us wouldn’t stay lit, so it was pretty cool outside.

First time here. Arrived at 5:30, and the wait for a table was about 10-15 minutes. They do not take reservations, and will not seat you until ALL your party is present. More demand for the limited, outdoor seating- but there are good views from most tables inside as well.
Greeted immediately at the front desk, and once seated, our waitress came over right away. Hot corn bread brought with our drinks! Delicious.
I had the tempura shrimp sushi special as an app and it was wonderful. Then- fried sea scallops- not greasy, moist, flavorful- perfectly cooked. Normally served with slaw and fries, but you can substitute with many choices; I had home-made potato salad. Service was fast, but not rushed. Most people seem to eat early here, as it cleared out a lot by 7ish.
My friend had crab cakes- excellent. And a Mojito. Our waitress, Justice (yes, really) asked how her drink was, and she said it was very good, but too much ice and not enough drink. Her second was much more drink and less ice! The bartender even inquired how she liked her second drink!
I was very impressed with this restaurant and would like to sample more from their extensive menu. They have a lot of sushi dishes.... This is definitely a cut-above a regular"seafood" place. It is popular and noisy- maybe less noisy seated out on the deck.

I really enjoy this restaurant. Often a new restaurant will open by the water and within a year they go downhill. Not this place. The food is great and the portions are generous. The seafood comes straight off the boats (they have several of their own) so it is unbelievably fresh. The severs are upbeat and always happy to give a recommendation if asked. Sit outside whenever possible, the view is fantastic.

I stayed going to this restaurant when it first opened last year.
I have been pleased with it but have some concerns as of my visit on July 7th for lunch.
The chowder they serve is unique and flavorful but it was gritty. When you assign prep work to an inexperienced person you get clams that have not been cleansed properly. These same people think it is ok to have gritty scallops.
The flavor was great but destroyed by sand.
My wife ordered a Ceasars Salad with grilled shrimp. I had to grab the shrimp with a hand to remove them from the skewer.
The dressing was great but hearts of romaine could not be cut without a steak knife.
I still like this Seafood house but they need to pay attention to detail.

We had an absolutely fabulous dinner out on the deck. The food was great and they use all fresh ingredients with everything being prepared on the spot. Portion sizes were perfect. Wish I had room for the amazing looking desserts I saw.
