The 5 star rating is so overused on Tripadvisor it's hard to know what to expect anymore. The Garrison Inn is a true 5 star hotel. Words like impeccable, exquisite and perfection come to mind when describing the accommodations. We're 63 years of age and have been to many fine hotels. The shower was the best we ever had. How can a shower be so memorable? Floor to ceiling tiling, a glass enclosure, room for 3 and everything brand new with hotel bathrobes waiting closeby. For a shower, it was a wonderful experience.
The room was decorated with antiques and had an exposed beam ceiling and exposed brick walls. Just when we thought there was nothing more they could do to impress us, we had the complimentary breakfast. Chef Stu served up Eggs Benedict with salmon. There were many other equally delicious selections to pick from too. Toss in free wifi, free parking, complimentary tea and goodies in the evening and the friendliest staff around and this hotel ranks the highest rating possible. We wish we could give it more than 5 stars. P.S. We paid $211 bottom line. The breakfast alone was worth $50. P.P.S Although the grounds were scant, the location could not be better, right in the heart of downtown Newburyport. It was easy to walk to good restaurants on the water and the many little shops in the area.More
