I was booked in what's called The Lodge rather than in (the presumably nicer & more expensive) Main House, even though price wasn't an issue for me when I booked. The Lodge is altogether dreary, my Room 208 full of ancient dark-wood furniture, an armchair smelling of mildew & with a mildewed cushion. No view of mountains, though supposedly this was a "view" room (in winter maybe, when leaves don't block view). No guest directory with information about the property. No one was at Reception when I arrived, & when someone finally came she wasn't particularly welcoming or informative.

Room Tip: Do not stay in The Lodge, but if you do, don't stay in Room 208.

Sharon W, Owner at Apple Tree Inn, responded to this reviewResponded 13 October 2017

I am sorry that the guest was not happy with her room. Unfortunately, she did not give us an opportunity to make her happy because she did not express any dissatisfaction until she checked out after spending 3 nights in the room and coming to breakfast daily where she could have spoken to me or the front desk staff.

We did have other rooms available that weekend and would have been happy to move her if she let us know that she was unhappy.

We have been enjoying stays at The Apple Tree Inn for at least 25 years. A short walk to Tanglewood and a more challenging but healthy walk into Lenox. The main house is very comfortable and romantic with cozy living room and tavern. Nice breakfast comes with the room. The Lodge has a more modern feel (1950s) and is next to the pool with fantastic view of the Berkshire Mountains. Even in winter this is a fine place for a weekend getaway. During the summer Tabglewood Music season its perfect. Love it.

The Apple Tree Inn is one of the best in the area. I just held our Annual CycleAbility Challenge for Special Olympics NY there and it was FABULOUS once again! From the atmosphere, food, hospitality, rooms and more, we couldn't ask for more and will continue to go there year after year. Joel and Sharon are just wonderful and truly great hosts. They are there for all and they are family to us and all the Cyclists. Please, do not hesitate - you will have an amazing time! Welcoming and relaxing..... A+++

Room Tip: Great views!!!! Pool, AC, clean rooms, and so much more!

Inn keepers,Sharon and Joel ,are warm and welcoming to large and small groups alike! The cozy, and at the same time elegant, inn is a delightful place to come back to after a long hike, bike ride, or tour of the area. The staff is helpful and the food is delicious! We have never been disappointed in all the years we have been visiting the Apple Tree Inn. The gardens and pool area are so inviting you won't want to leave!
