We had a great meal at Salvatore’s last night. The lasagna comes with two meatballs and it’s a meal for two people, especially if you get a soup or salad. I didn’t get a salad because I didn’t see a small one on the menu for a fair price, they all looked like meals.
We were seated by the window and the tables were on top of each other, maybe an opportunity to redo the layout for everyone to have a better view outside and not be on top of the table next to you.
It was close to 5 degrees outside and the four of us were cold the whole time in the restaurant and every time someone came in the door it got colder. We had sweaters on and my daughter eventually put her coat back on. Probably not an issue the majority of the time.

We had lunch, tasting the meatball sandwich and the eggplant parmigiana. The eggplant was a generous lunch served with pasta. The eggplant flavor was drowned out by the sauce and the cheese. The sauce was too salty, combined with cheese (salty) resulted in tasting salt and little else. Removal of the cheese helped restore some eggplant flavor but not enough to salvage the dish. The meatball sandwich was four good size meatballs with sauce and cheese on a nicely toasted ciabatta served with fries and cole slaw. The meatballs were overwhelmed by the cheese, so removed some and that helped a bit to actually taste the meatballs, which seem to have been made with cheese, some spices and salt. The sauce was salty too, so again, the dish's primary taste was salt. The french fries were soft and, you guessed it, salty. The cole slaw was dressed with a vinegar and was a delight. The decafe coffee was okay, a bit stronger brew would have helped.

It has a nice outdoor dining section that overlooks the Merrimack river.

First the good; quality and preparation of food was excellent and services was good.

Now; why only an average rating?...

Prices are high and portions are small to moderate ... i.e.:
1. veal piccata was $24 and included two medium/small pieces of veal and a medium sized portion of pasta (substituted for mashed potatoes which didn't appeal to my Italian ethnicity).
As an aside, while excellent tasting, the piccata veal was more like a scallopini veal with a very well prepared piccata sauce; interesting.
2. mussels were good sized and Nicky prepared but portion was modest relative to nearly anywhere else they we've had them.
I would make similar comments about the fried calamari app and the other three entrees.

Cocktails were also on the high side:
- low end glass of wine; $9
- Bloody Mary; $9
- Premium vodka martini; $13

We sat outside which was, in our opinion more aesthetically pleasing than the inside which was just a big room without much fanfare. Unfortunately, the family at the table behind ours allowed their young kids to play music aloud on their phones which was pretty inconsiderate and annoying to other diners.
Note to management: It's ok to ask parents to control their kids when they are disturbing other patrons; Often, crying or whining children can't be helped but, playing audible music on a phone in a restaurant can be helped and should be prohibited...no excuse for this!

Although they have a substantive bar area, they were unable to accommodate the request for a tropical drink from one in our party citing they they did not have all of the required ingredients...hard to believe given the size of the bar.

Our server was a very pleasant young man who did his best to accommodate us.

Parking is quite ample.

The food was very good, but not great, especially for the price. I started with the signature salad. They forgot the apples, but a waitress brought them when requested. It was alright. I had veal Marsala next. The veal was cooked beautifully and the sauce was good, but there was not enough of it. My husband had the Haddock Florentine. Again, cooked well, but not inspired. Expected more for the price.
The atmosphere on the veranda was very nice. Not too fancy, but comfortable. Great little cover band enhanced the mood. I recommend the place, but look for a coupon to defray the cost.
