We had a lovely stay at the Harborview Inn. Within walking distance to nice restaurants. Quick drive to Good Harbor Beach and Rockport. Amazing, view of the Harbor while relaxing on the front porch. The Inn is spotless. John, the host, is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. This was very helpful to us. When traveling to New England towns it is especially nice to stay at B&Bs. Charming is the best word to describe the Inn. Being unfamiliar with Gloucester, I blindly picked this B&B. It was a great choice and would definitely go back again!

We have stayed here the last 2 summers and plan on coming back for years to come. John, the owner, is such a friendly and warm person that you feel comfortable and at home as soon as you step in the door. Nothing beats having freshly brewed coffee and pastries on the porch, while enjoying fun conversations with John and soaking in the great ocean views. Breakfast also includes bagels, english muffins, hard-boiled eggs, various cereals, OJ, tea, and coffee - enough to fill you up for a great day on the beach!

We have stayed in a different room each year and they have all the New England charm you could ask for, while still having the luxuries you would expect- private bath, extremely comfortable bed and seating, TV, AC, and great windows with views to the ocean. Some people have commented on the decor being out-dated, which I have to disagree with as it goes perfectly with the style of the old home. Also, parking is a non-issue. They have 4 dedicated spots in the back, and if those are full, there is plenty of parking right across the street at no charge for over-night. The Inn is literally right across the street from the Fishermans' Memorial Statue and beach, and about a 10 minute walk into town to all the restaurants and whale-watching.

Overall- very comfortable stay, with a friendly host and short walk to everything. What more can you ask for?

Room tip: Get one facing the ocean- totally worth it.

We loved out stay in the Harbourview Inn. The owner is very friendly, The view over the harbour is great. We loved to breakfast on the porch. And have a drink there in the evening.
Yes, there is a road in front of the inn, and the building is not modern or slick. But the character and charm make up for that. Various nice restaurants are within walking distance.
We had a room at the back, which was quiet at night (we like to sleep with the window open).
When we return to Cape Ann we will certainly stay again here.

This place is a total sham and is so dated I was insulted at what we paid. Although the view is great, it's not worth the money and the house is in desperate need of some updating, TLC, and repair. To make matters worse , the owner charged us for an extra night due to a miscommunication in the reservation after we booked almost every room. He obviously doesn't need our business ever again and we won't be staying there ever again. Too bad for their business as we have told more than several people in Gloucester about our poor experience. They need to learn the nuances and professional etiquette of the hospitality industry.

Management response:Responded 25 June 2012

The above review is a bit confusing. The guest and family members took several rooms for the second time in 9 months. They enjoyed their stay so much, that they decided to stay longer for the largest festival Gloucester has in June. This stay was last June at this time.

One member of the group booked for one day earlier that the others, received a confirmation of the stay and did not cancell, but did not show up on the confirmed date. Since I held the room during the busiest weekend, I lost the ability to rent this room. I had , according to my policy, to charge this one night. or loose one night of business.

The decore of the house is French Country, from the 1800's this makes this home very charming and colorful. The decore is the reason these people stayed here in Sept. of 2011, and decided to return in the following June.

So again, I am confused, I am sure they still resent paying for one night they did not stay here, but someone had to pay for their error.

Thanks , John

This is not a fancy hotel, so if that is what you are looking for you may not be happy. This is an old (about 100 yr old) house converted to a B&B. We had the room all the way on the third floor. It had a nice view of the water and the room was clean and spacious, with a refrigerator and little microwave. They provide simple toiletries like body wash and lotion. The owner is a very nice, friendly man. Breakfast was simple but solid: pastries, bagels, cereal, hard boiled eggs, fruit, and cofee/juice/milk. We stayed in September and the air conditioning was working fine, so we did not experience the problem reported in another review. They have 4 parking spaces next to the house as well as street parking in front of the hotel. The bathtub in this particular room is an old fashioned claw footed tub with a shower. The only thing I would add to the rooms is a security door chain to use when you are in the room at night. We would definitely stay here again.
